That was some of the best television I've seen in a long time, 23109. She is the prototype for far too many stops I've made. Good to see Judge Judy up in arms about the whole thing--maybe some of our pro-tems could learn a thing or two from her!

And that is why if I were one of you I'd purchase the best mini recorder money could buy. Since the judge ruled in the officers favor does anyone know if her complaint stays in his file?

Good idea. I did another ride along Sunday and the officer had a digital recorder in his pocket. He says it has saved his butt many times. He gets a lot of complaints because he writes tons of tickets.

Thanks for the post 23109. Just another example of the whackos out there. This is a 100% unwarranted citizen complaint. This "college educated" baby is a waste of time and money to the LAPD. Everyone is responsible for their own actions! This whacko is lucky she didn't have to give up more in my opinion. WHaaWhaa:lol:

This is also a text book example for all of you applicants as to how to look and how to testify in court. I am referring of course to the officer, not the bimbo he cited.

Even though he was cleared of the complaint, it will remain in his file for "trend analysis" until he retires.

This lawsuit was civil, and has nothing to do with guilt or no guilt.

If I remember correctly, there a Penal Code Section about making a false complaint against an Officer isn't there???

Daddy is an as*******e!!!:hitwall:

I can say that when I worked as a Reserve Officer, I recorded every stop, and it paid off several times.

Judge Judy is very rude and this girl is a bimbo..... life goes on.

Was it just me or did Judge Judy force the officer into making a donation of some sort to the police department? I don't understand why it matters what he does with his money.

It was funny at the end watching the father in the back with his head in the shallows.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the show ends up paying the settlement, not the defendant. Knowing the way these type of "reality" shows work, I would be willing to bet the charitable donation, among other things, was worked out in advance.

That would make perfect sense, I was not aware that the defendant wasn't paying.

I wish Judge Judy would come to Elk Grove! This sounds like half of my traffic stops every day...no one wants to take responsibility for their own actions and everybody knows "somebody"!

I was against recorders for awhile (officer safety issue: having to look down to turn the thing on). Now, I wouldn't go a day without one...saved me half a dozen times at least.

Awww the poor bimbo is now afraid to drive at all because he might tell his friends. What a joke!

lol@her. "I have bills for my therapy". COOL!

However, I am wondering about the legality of recording this conversation. Am I, as a citizen also allowed to record our conversation if I am stopped?

Do you get stopped often enough to need to carry a recorder with you always to be able to record the stops????

I'm surprised the father did what he did. Pretty silly if you ask me.

I just asked if it was legal. I like how everyone assumes im going to break the law because of it. okay...

"Everyone assumes" you're going to break the law? Check the superlatives at the door, bro--I don't even see one person assuming you're going to break the law based on your question. In fact, there was one person asking if it was necessary for you.

At least you didn't accuse the CHP of making money on the sales of recorders. Lighten up, a little--the world isn't out to get you! (Except for the black helicopter hovering over your domicile spraying your air with microbes to keep the health-insurance companies in business.)

I just asked if it was legal. I like how everyone assumes im going to break the law because of it. okay...It is legal. No one assumed you were going to break the law, one person simply asked if you really needed it. Officers see 5-20 (or more) traffic stops a day. A voice recorder helps in numerous ways. Hopefully you aren't stopped more than once a year. You should be able to remember everything that was said to you.

Both ride-outs i've done so far, neither officer had a digital voice recorder, although they were both relatively young (one was in his 2nd yr, and the other was just off break-in (newbie)), so they probably haven't had much experience with people who fought the ticket and then tried to claim what the officer said was different from what he wrote... Not that it would hold up in court.

Although I would venture a guess in saying that as in most legal things. Oral contracts are non-binding... You signed the ticket, which basically means you've read what it states and accept the interpretation of the charges being levied against you.
So if you signed it, and didn't understand it, tough beans.

I stand corrected. Thank you sir.

Normally, I don't watch Judge Judy, unless there is nothing left on TV, But this episode just became my favorite episode EVER :-)

Hey sac_law, did you finally make it back to the road on a motor yet? Haven't seen you posting on here in a while, was just curios how everything turned out? I'm guessing by your picture your back out there!

I love Judge Judy, and that was a fair judgment. I got one speeding ticket in 2006, at midnight, on icy road on I-80, and I was driving 75 m/hr instead of 65. I was upset exactly for 4.5 minutes because after that I saw horrible fatal accident. Thanks to that officer who stopped me. He saved my life. After all I took traffic school and paid $250 totals. That’s it. No more speeding for 2 years and hopefully for the rest of my life.
