Hey all:
I'm in the market for some new headphones to use while running. I've been using the stock iPod white headphones but they are starting to irritate my ears some.
What do you guys use/recommend?
Thanks!

Check out Sports Authority. I purchased Sony headphones that are designed for sport use. They have speakers that go partially in the ear with clips that go over the ear. They do not fall out like the ear bud type of headphones I had in the past and they won't look as cool as Chippy Sgt. headphones.

Actually, the SONY headphones that go over the ears are probably the best for running. The do not put a lot of pressure on the ears; they allow you to hear beyond the headphones; and, they are made with a longer cord.

I also hated my ipod buds for running. I got a pair of Nike phones at target for bout 20 bucks. they clip over the ears and have an adjustable cord length and my ears like them much better than the ipod torture buds.

Yes, for your OFF DUTY time! You will not be allowed to wear any headphones during your daily run. All they want you to hear is the beating of your little heart and the cadence that is yelled out to keep you in step with the others.

That is why I have tried to stay away from training with the MP3. Don't want to depend on it to get me through the runs. I want to know I can do it without the eye of the tiger blaring in my ears.

To each his own I guess. My outlook has always been why be miserable while you are training, when you have plenty of time to be miserable during the real deal.

I agree usmc8541. I'd rather listen to tunes and crank out that extra mile, than getting bored and stopping a mile short of puking. Whatever ever it takes.

PERFECT!! Training can be tough...the idea is to do whatever you can to get the most out of each 'Training' run, because each 'run till you heave' training session will pay off in spades during PT...trust me on this. This is just my personal opinion, however if you stop a training run at the 'uncomfortable stage'...you are cheating yourself! If you normally listen to music while running....don't stop now, use it to allow you to push that extra mile or two...if you're using an iPod...set yourself a good 'Power Song' and USE IT. As far as not running to music at the Academy...don't worry, you will be singing cadence that you will remember for the rest of your lives!

Yzeman: I just got back from my morning training run, and I wanted you to know that line really stuck out in my mind while I began to get tired. I recently hurt myself playing hockey, putting me out of commission for a few weeks. I got out of my groove with running, and had been stopping at the "uncomfortable stage" the past few times out.
To all of the officers who post here, you never know what small things you may write which may really have a positive effect on an applicant. Just wanted to post my thanks.

I don't mean to sound corny....but if I say one thing that helps someone on this forum....it's a good day:biggrin:
I have seen too many people jog a couple times a week and think they are somehow ready for the Academy (always remember, BIG difference between jogging and running)....I don't remember who said it on an earlier thread, but the best advice for those preparing to enter the Academy can be summed up in just two words.......START RUNNING!
Glad I could help...and thanks:wink:
