If you are referring to the "Cheezit" on the shoulder I believe it indicates that you are a senior and the color is based on what "Company" you are assigned to.

Wow - that's new. We had 3 companies and we all had gold/yellow ones.

Are you talking about the new flaming hot cheezits???
If you're talking about the new cadet photos i do believe that the lucky company commander/liason gets to wear the new flaming hot cheezit. SWEET!

Ah...the Co. Commanders used to wear aiguilettes (blue or yellow). I am sure the red cheezit is less cumbersome than that cord around the arm.

They started that red cheezit trash with our class; here's the scoop
Yellow Cheezit: Senior Cadet
Blue or yellow rope: Company victi... ahem, commander
Red Cheezit: Squad leader (Liason between squad counselor and the squad)
Clear as mud?
The first guy in our company to get the red one joked it designated him as the leader of the training table.

Yeah - I don't like it. The dark blue shoulder flap (whatever its called) added to the uniform. Definately looked better than the plain blue current shirt. IMO
The plain blue aren't "new". Cadets used to wear the plain blue shirts. They're what we wore when I went through.

Well, back when I went through.........
God, I love this stuff.
No, really, we arrived butt naked and had to go out into the brush around the high speed driving course and kill something, skin it, and make our clothes out of that. I'm sure that when Papa Bear went through, they didn't even bother with clothes. This is what makes the CHP the greatest law enforcement agency in the world.
