Lol i was joking about the no replies. As for the search im not sure as to what i would be searching for? I was simply saying hello. maybe i should have posted in a new members section? Anyways just saying hello!
First, congrats on taking this project on. Best of luck with the testing. Just so you are aware (according to new info by Snowdog) you must be 21 to enter the academy. So you are looking at the CTC - IV-08 class at the earliest. Don't procrastinate, keep training til class starts.

I would imagine the CHP site is slightly out of date on this particular issue?
Entry age standards for Cadet, CHP, are defined in California Vehicle Code Section 2256. The law states in part, "the minimum age limit for appointment to the position of State Traffic Officer shall be 21 years at time of appointment (20 years and six months to enter the CHP Academy), and the maximum age limit for examination shall be 35." The Cadet, CHP, classification is the recruitment and training classification that develops successful candidates into officers. The California Legislature established the maximum entry age requirement, after considerable testimony on the job criteria of a California Highway Patrol Officer and the amount of time necessary to function at a journey person level. The Legislature felt the entry age was justified and needed to ensure maximum public safety as well as optimum safety to the officer. The mandatory retirement age is 60 years of age, as mandated by the California Public Employees' Retirement Law. For further questions, you may contact the Cadet Hiring Unit at (916) 375-2180.

regardless it will be exciting when i get there. if its 21 i shall have more time to get prepared. i was just wondering, does completing the process guarantee i will be going to the academy, and does graduating the academy guarantee that i will have a job as a chp. someone told me the other day that their is only 300 spots for chp jobs left. that doesnt sound right to me.

Keep in mind, retirement will add to this.

If you successfully complete all stages of the hiring process, you will go to the academy. If you graduate the academy, you are promoted from "Cadet, CHP" to "Officer, CHP" and assigned somewhere in the state of California (don't ask where - it could be anywhere from El Centro to Alturas, nobody can tell you where you will end up.)
The Department is currently authorized to add 240 Officer positions - keep in mind that ADDING those positions entails filling the spots vacated by attrition (retirements, resignations, terminations, etc.), then filling positions above and beyond those slots. That adds up to many more than 300 new officers.

There is a near constant need for new officers, something the Chippies have been trying to say already. Law enforcement everywhere is bracing for large #'s of baby boomers getting ready for retirement, and having to work hard to get enough recruits to replace those retiree's, let alone for additional positions that have been authorized.
In short, if you make it to the academy and graduate, there will be a position for you, unless there is an almost unprecedented collapse in the California economy and therefore the state budget.

FromTheNorth just study very hard so you can pass the written test. It's very difficult. I took it on August 4, 2007 and failed. I have to study some more and retake it. Good luck!!

We are in a constant state of hiring as we lose approximately 30 officers per month due to retirement, injury, or those who simply leave the department. That means that in a 6 month period (your Academy time) we will have to fill approximately 180 positions that have been vacated. The govenor gave us 120 NEW officer's for this year on top of the above vacancies.
Don't worry, we'll have a job for you if you get out of the Academy! Call a recruiter if you have any questions, they are usually the most well informed and up to date when it comes to the hiring process.

CaptainChuck, sorry to hear this. How long is the wait before you can retake it? It is 1 year for CSP.
