Anyone watch The Shield on FX?

Yes, I am hooked on it like I am this forum.
Having spent nearly thirty years in law enforcement and another four years involved in local government as a Board Member etc. I can say without reservation it is totally a fantasy show. Over the years some cops have tried to act like Vic and his crew, but have always been brought up on charges sooner or later...Ramparts anyone?
Another tamer example was Andy Sipowitz on NYPD Blue. Any real law enforcement would be fired after about the second or third incident these guys pull:biggrin:
These shows are actualy morality plays. Good versus evil. In the end evil must lose or we don't feel right.
Another example is the Sopranos...I'm betting if this is the final season for Shield and Sopranos that Tony Soprano is killed and Vic Mackey of the Shield and his crew are arrested. Probably by Dutch and the character played by CCH Pounder who more accuratley reflect how real officers deal with things.

I've seen all 4 seasons as well. Great show. The old school LAPD, back when Darrell Gates was in charge, got away with a lot. My friend's Uncle was a Veteran RH Detective out of Wilshire Division... some of his stories are just unbelievable.

I'm so behind, I still need to see Season 4. :biggrin:shock:ubt:

I am in the process of rewatching Seasons 1-3 right now (I have extra time since I've been sick as a dog). I may pick up Season 4 when I'm done, but we'll see how cash is.

Vic is in some serious stuff, but this time he tried to help someone and not try to pocket money for himself.

Agreed. Who thinks the blonde guy is going to roll on Vic? Personally, I dont.

I think they have been through to much stuff for him to do that. If they could do it for shain in season 4, then they can do it for him in season 5.

Last night when that pregnant female officer told the newby Hispanic female officer that , "The problem with you is that this sh*t isn't real to you yet", regarding her hasty action in going into the cage with a live weapon thus endangering everyone else, rang really true. That sort of thing relates to all new officers, myself included thirty years ago. When you first begin the process and even while you are at the academy and even during your first year or so it somehow really doesn't seem real. Then a friend or a classmate gets hurt or killed. Or you get in over your head with a "real" bad guy. Suddenly it is real. It is at that point that you become a "veteran". Might take six months, might take six years, but when you ralize "this sh*t is real" you are there. Look for it.

By the way, Vic should have shot both the black IAD guy and the female snitch if he ever hopes to get away clean. That guy is closing in for the kill.
Disclaimer...we are discussing a TV show, not real life. In real life, don't kill other officers or anyone else if you can help it. Vic is already guilty of shooting that other young detective last year, so what is one or two more in the context of trying to stay ahead of the game?

LOL, Love the disclaimer. That black guy is driving me crazy and the stupid Mexican chick he is with. According to the previews for the next episode, some shi* is about to go down!

The new cop cannot seem to take the criticism. It looks like she might leave the force. I know what you mean to, it is not real at first.

Vic is doomed. Soon Shane will desert him and make a deal for himself and his spaced out real estate salesperson wife. Then the pressure will get to the Len? (the blonde beefy guy) and finally to the quiet guy who got his face scarred last year and now has the beard. Vic's wife also said way too much to the IAD guy, as did the poor ugly pregnant oficer. Vic is doomed.
Look for him to go down in a blaze of glory or go on the run soon.

Crazy episode. I don't know what happened to Claudette. I think she broke her neck. Also next episode Antwone Michel is going to tell IAD everything.

I would have rushed the IAD LT. and beat him to the ground. Take my badge, take my gun, throw me in jail. But you dont do that to one of my fellow officers and friends.

Yeah, it is getting really complicated as they close in on the season finale. I am glad it is just a season finale too and thank God Sopranos starts next Sunday night. I am just about out of TIVO'ed reruns of that too.

Get TIVO and you never have to watch commercials unless you want to. I think I will take a pass on Black/White.

Interestingly, as the remaining three of the group were walking away and Vic said, "we are going to find who killed Lem and kill him", Shane seemed to take a step back or be moving away slightly. Guess there will be another season after all, I just hope they don't pull a Sopranos on me and make it a year or so down the way before they get to it. Reruns start on SPIKE Channel next Friday.
