View Full Version : B.I. & current job
Hey everyone,
This is my first post. I have been visiting the site for about 3 months now, and finally registered.
My written test is on Aug. 4 and the PAT is on Aug. 25. When will the BI visit my current employer? I have kept my new CHP career goal very quiet and I am concerned about my sudden "outing" at my place of employment.
Any suggestions on how/when to let them know? (I still need this job until I get to the Academy.)
Thanks everybody! :hitwall:

Welcome. When you complete your PHS for the background investigation make certain you mark the box indicating you would prefer that they not contact your current employer until the very end. While some applicants check this box, all have indicated to me that their employer wished them well in their pursuit of a career in law enforcement. If possible, maybe you can start dropping little hints now and get a feel for how they react.
Good Luck.
Thanks!
I think they'll be supportive, for the most part. A couple of them have gotten suspicious, as I have been bragging about my brother-in-law (5 yrs. w/ the CHP) and I've lost 20lbs. in prep. for the PAT. I think they're putting two and two together!
I can hardly wait for this career to begin!

Good luck with everything! Oh and if you're serious about it, this career has already begun

When I worked backgrounds and an applicant had indicated that they did not want their current employer contacted, I would complete the entire process except for current employment. If there was a problem that would prevent the applicant from continuing, I would conduct the final interview and complete the process without ever contacting the current employer. If everything was ok up to that point, I would contact the applicant, advise them that I needed to contact their current employer to complete my investigation, and then let the applicant make the final decision.
That is how I did it. I can't speak for anyone doing backgrounds now.
Good Luck!

Cool. I have the same dates. Are you going to the seminar this Saturday at 9AM (July 28, 2007)?
I have the same problem, but I already told my current employer about me joining the CHP. They seemed OK with it. Hope to see you at the test, and if I don't good luck.
