PASO ROBLES -- A California Highway Patrol helicopter crashed during takeoff Friday, slightly injuring three people on board.
The helicopter was taking off from Paso Robles Airport for a patrol just before 1:30 p.m. when it rolled onto its side, according to a CHP statement.
The pilot and two flight observers complained of pain but were not treated at the scene or hospitalized, the CHP said.
The helicopter's altitude at the time of the crash was unclear but the aircraft had significant damage, the CHP said.
The weather was clear at the time and the cause of the crash was under investigation, the CHP said.
Paso Robles is 165 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

I have a friend who is a flight observer in the helicopter at the Paso Robles Airport, so my heart skipped when I first read this. Thank God they are OK!! I'm not even sure if he was on the helicopter at the time, but I'm sure going to find out.
