Well, I passed my QAP; I received a 90 which I was actually pleased with considering the interview fell on the busiest day in the busiest week of my semester. Anyway, I received a conditional commitment to hire today (amazing!) and I had a question about what happens next. I'm still in school; come January 21st I will begin my final semester, a semester I will spend studying abroad in Israel. Will I be able to continue in the process? Also, I wear contacts and didn't do so well on the vision portion of the physical test. When do I have to have that taken care of? I read through the documents, but I don't have a clear idea on how to proceed with my vision deferrment. Thanks!

Congrats iseebluuue!!

I was 20/40 in my right eye at the PAT. The officer said that I needed to have it corrected by the time I take the state medical exam later in the process. I would imagine that would be the same for you but with contacts things might be different. I need to find an eye doctor and find out exactly what needs to be done to get me back to 20/20 in the right eye.
Best of luck to you.

I wear contacts and got one of those deferrals as well as I could not even see the chart out of my left eye. I was told to get it correcting before the medical exam and it would be fine. I Went to my eye doc the next week and got my contact prescription updated.
I hope that helps, congrats and good luck the rest of the way.

Probably just a pair of glasses will work for you.

Thanks. I wonder how accurate the exam I was adminstered during the physical was. I never have trouble reading the 20/20 line at my optometrists' when I have my contacts in and given that the testing was done at a high school, there are a lot of variables, such as distance, size and focus of the eye charts on the projector. I was really bummed when I couldn't read it. Oh well, things happen, I'll just have to go see my doc again before that medical. Thanks everyone, any ideas about how things will proceed if I'm in Israel?

iseebluuuue;
This is a great opportunity for you. I would not let the education trip to Israel interfere with your career opportunity, if being a CHP Officer is what you really want...The opportunity is real, and is now...Grab it!!!:biggrin:
Thanks for the info on the vision question Dipmo & dw.

I struggled with the vision test, too. First came the color test, and I didn't pass one slide. Later I realized why...I was trying SO HARD to see a pattern in it! I kept saying it had a few snakes, and this other part looked like whatever. I think the Officer knew what the problem was due to his slight frustration. Later I remembered that they might not all have a pattern! Then on the 20/20 test, I only passed in 1 eye. I've always had great vision, so I never sweated what I read about that. Suddenly I was sweating bullets! Deferred? What's that? So I took my deferral card to the doc, they tested my vision, and said they were only giving me reading glasses to help me get the job. Hardly barely a stigmatism. It might be tiny in the doc's eyes, but I am SO GLAD I tested and found out that something's wrong (aka I'm getting old!)! I mean, my vision has always been great, and now I see that I've really taken that for granted. Without the CHP test, how would I have known?
I don't come close to qualifying for contacts, but a contact wearing friend warned me that if I did...remove them for gas or throw them out! He used to be a security gueard, and wound up in a scuffle where OC was used. He never got those contacts clean, and had to chuck them. so...if you go to the academy as a contacts wearer, don't wear them during gas. If you're required to (how would I know, I'm just an applicant), throw them out immediatly and put in a fresh pair.
