Just a quick question regarding the required paperwork needed for the initial background meeting; everyone needs to present the original copy of your birth certificate to your background investigator. I am having a very hard time coming up with this document at this time. However, I do have a"certified copy" from the state. Will this do if I can't find the original?
Thanks!

Yes. That is the "original". It needs to have the seal on it, and they need the ORIGINAL of it. What they mean is, you can't send them a copy of the original certified. You usually get this at the county recorder's office in the county where you were born.

Thank you very much!
I should have realized that the certified copy would do. I was thinking the whole time that I was in trouble. So this helps.
Thanks again!

 They understand that things happen to birth certificates; along as the "original" you present is a certified copy from the county you were born in, that will suffice. No Xerox coppies are to be presented in place of an original. If there is still a problem, discuss it with your investigator. Good Luck!

Good Luck!Actually, the "original" birth certificate is held by the county of record. It is impossible to have the "original", which is why they ask for an original copy (which would be better worded as a certified copy of the birth certificate.)
