That audio is very hard to listen to as I am from Fresno. However, I looked up the story on the local news stations website and I think all of us here on this forum will be glad to know both officers made a full recovery, and eventually returned to work. They actually said the attack strengthened their resolve as officers to protect the community.

Very hard to listen to. I'm glad they came out of it OK, everyone sounded professional and level headed. Was there any assist from CHP for this?

Great job from everyone that assisted in that situation from both sides of the radio.

Glad no one was hurt... I very much doubt CHP was assisting in this.. nothing came out on the scanner to call CHP nor any freeways nearby. :noidea:

I figured since they were requesting traffic to be closed at multiple streets, I would venture to guess that any alteration in traffic flow within a city would most likely have an impact on freeway traffic.

Fresno CHP Graveyard units were 10-97. Just helped out with the perimeter, etc. I don't believe you will ever hear of such an incident where CHP does not respond to at least offer assistance.

Good ole' reliable CHP. If they're not in the mess they are there to help clean the mess.

The one thing that is really nice with this incident is that all other units stayed off of the radio to allowed the injured officers to speak when they needed.

When a big incident goes down everyone wants to get on the radio and tell dispatch that they are "en route code 3', or asking dispatch to "send the call to their computer"

My advise to new officers is that when a big call or incident goes down, just start rolling towards the area. If the incident is big enough EVERYONE is going to be responding code 3. You dont need to tell dispatch that YOU are going as well. Dispatch knows you are going. Im sure if your partner was shot you would not be hanging out at Starbucks waiting for dispatch to send you. When the incident is secure a roll call will be conducted with dispatch and the field units. That is when you get on the air and tell them that you are on scene and what your location or duty is.

What good advice from ORI-1976.

But I'm afraid the wanna be "golden Microphone" award winners won't heed it generally. This has been going on forever.

It takes a half a second to just say for example, "21 enroute" if you are going, or "21 97" upon your arrival. Dispatch doesn't need or want your scene description or the trouble you are having geting through traffic etc.

It can really compromise safety of those dealing with the event on scene. Again, great advice ORI.

nor any freeways nearby. :noidea:Because we turn to dust when we leave a freeway. Especially when another officer needs assistance.
