Congratulations, I had dreamed with the letter and number so many times. Hopefully, you will hear from your BI soon. Any thoughts for those who might be sitting in front of the panel sooner or later?

Just be honest bro. And confindent. that is basically an interview to see how you are and for you to tell them anything that you failed to mention on your app or anything else that you might want to say before they find out. You really need to go for ridealongs after your writen bro. I didnt but I wish I did. but #1 is Honesty.

Soon2B, congrats on the 95! I check this forum numerous times each day and absorb as much info as possible. I don't post very often but thought I'd congratulate you (and the others with passing scores) as I know how good it feels.

I just had my final BI interview last week and have been recommended to continue in the process. There is one thing I wish I would have done differently though. After I received my QAP results, I waited 3 months for a BI to contact me. Finally, a CHP friend of mine told me to calley Valley Division and inquire as to what was going on. They told me they'd forward my file to a BI; two days later my BI contacted me.

My advice would be to inquire if you have not heard anything after 6 weeks (does that sound reasonable to anyone else? DW?). My BI told me that if we had started my BI 3 weeks earlier I may have been able to get into the Nov 14th academy.

Good luck with the rest of the process!

If you haven't heard anything for six weeks, I suppose you can give a call. But the general rule is "don't call us, we'll call you." The wait in backgrounds is often because an invistigator is assigned several cases when you all get your conditional commitment to hires. Although your background may only take a couple months, be aware that each investigator has several cases and probably can't start them all at once -- you may be in the second or third "group." No, there is no way to get your case started first, there's a pile of cases and the investigator will pick some to work.

Anyway, calling to "check up" just delays the investigator's work on other cases. I assure you, unlike some other agencies, we will not forget about you. It may seem that way at times, but we won't.

Congrats Soon2BCHP!

I just received word myself. I got a 95 and received 10 points for Veteran's preferance giving me a total of 105.

You know, I really hope that I didn't get a good score because I'm a female. I really thought that I did horrible on my QAP, and I honestly haven't done half of the stuff that other applicants have done to prepare. I've heard that they are trying to get more women recruits, so I hope that they didn't give my gender special preference. That would sicken me.

I think there are a lot of applicants out there more deserving of the position than me, just based on the time and dedication they have put into the selection process. Honestly, this has been a rather quick process for me. I haven't even had time to do a ride along or even get to an orientation. Heck, the written test came up so fast after my application that I didn't even really study and I passed. (Although I wasn't really worried about the written test....I've always had a sick knack for taking tests and I did have a cumulative GPA of 4.0 in college...)

But anyhow, my point is that I really feel I didn't do well on the QAP, and I can't believe I passed with that score. With that being said, I sincerely hope they didn't give me a higher score based on my sex. Does anyone have their two cents to put in about that? Does anyone think it's a possibility?

As Your Mentor said in another thread:
If you're serious about pursuing this job, you need to put gender out of your head. It's simply YOU who will be making the grade or not. Good luck with the process.
Testing is a very competitive process - obviously your QAP panel saw something in you that they liked. Regardless of whether or not the department is looking for female recruits, the people on the panels aren't going to let someone past who they perceive is a loser or knucklehead. They're proud members of this department, and are conscious of the fact that we have standards to uphold. Congratulations on your score - just take 'yes' for an answer and move on to the next step!

You are right Mac.

I suppose the idea got put into my head for a few reasons.

I was talking with another female applicant before our QAP's began. She was quite nervous, and she said to me, and I quote, "I am so nervous, I'm probably going to screw this up. The only thing I have going for me is the fact that I'm a woman." Well, this naturally disgusted me. I told her in a polite and cordial manner that I would sure hate it if they picked me based on that fact.

Also, there were a few male candidates at the PAT who commented to me "that I shouldn't worry about anything because I'm a woman...that I have a better chance on the QAP than any of them did."

But I know you are right Mac. It is just unfortunate however that there will be women out there depending on equal opportunity and affirmative action, and men out there thinking that I was selected because of it.

I need to be more confident in myself and my abilities. The panel must have liked how I conducted myself and must have like what I had to say, or else I wouldn't have passed.

Thank you.

I'll tell ya this much - if/when you get onto the streets, you won't be judged by whether you're a woman or not - you'll be judged by how well you do the job, how good of a beat partner you are and how willing you are to 'throw down' when things get ugly. Like YM said, it's YOU who will make the grade or not. When I call for assistance at a scene, or request Code 3 cover because somebody decided to go sideways, all I care about is that whoever shows up can get the job done, whatever it may be.....it doesn't matter one bit whether they happen to be male or female.

Let me give the "flip" side of what Mac said. There are several men on this job that I do NOT want at my scene/crisis/aid. It has nothing to do with gender just the way that Officer performs...period.

Well I have to finish calling people then start on my PHS.

Good luck to anyone else who may be in the process. Thanks again to all of the officers and fellow applicants who have offered advise here. I am sure we'll be relying on your help more as time goes on.
