I had three ingrown townails cut out before the DR. finally decided to kill the bed where the nail became ingrown. I havent had one in four years.
I also keep my nails somewhat long to keep them from becommin ingrown. If you are just dealing with the pain spend the time and co-pay to go to the DR.

It ended up getting infected so I went to the doctor and he removed the portion of my toenail that was ingrown and causing the infection.
Third time I've had to do this.. I cut my toenails exactly how I'm supposed to, but they don't want to do their part and grow the right way!
I have a picture, but I'll save you guys the nausea.

That is the same thing that happened to me. If it happens again ask the doctor to kill the root of that part of the nail. If he doesn't want to or doesn't know how, then get a new doctor. I haven't had one since. Also maybe try changing your work boots/shoes. I switched to the Timberland Titan 6" and that may have had somethimg to do with it. I have continued to buy the Titans and coudn't be happier. They are standard width but wider than normal boots. I tried going to a wider boot prior and they were too wide. When you are on your feet all day an ingrown toenail sure can make work even more miserable than it already is.
