I currently train Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu nearly everyday. The workouts are pretty intense. Think this is enough to prepare for physical rigors of the academy?

Any other fighters on the board?

Any officers train martial arts to keep your combat skills sharp?

If any of that involves cardio, pushups, pullups u probably are good to go. I here those are the essentials at the academy.-CAS

Running (not jogging), pushups, pullups, leglifts, situps. Did I mention running? Good Luck. Did I mention running?

Kick that running up a notch. On my tri team, I'm the slow runner, with a 27 minute 5k...a tad faster than the 3x9 minute mile requirement. At the PAT, one of the PT instructors said we should be doing 25 minutes of calestenics (the 50 situps, pushups thing) non-stop, THEN run the 3x9. I thought I was doing OK, but at my last triathlon, after the 1/2 mile swim, after the world's steepest bike ride, my run time was in the 10 minute mile category! EEK!

Do you think it is worth it to get a personal trainer, to use at your gym to prepare you?

I know one office that had a personal trainer. If you can't motivate yourself than I would.

It is just hard trying to go to the gym 3 times a week.

Any recommended running regiments?

3-4 miles a day? Times? Periodization?

Treadmills aren't very accurate because you are not physically moving, you stay in one spot, and it tires out your mind.

Do they make you do any swimming at the academy? While I was a city pool lifeguard all through high school, I'm not that strong of a swimmer (that's irony for you).

I run like a mofo and love to exercise, so I'm okay with everything else.

I used to train heavy in MMA. It will help, but not enough. Trust me!!!!

Buy GOOD shoes from a RUNNER'S store not a Foot Locker store. Mix up 1.5 mile sprints with 3-4 mile runs. Do as many pullups as you can every day. To a pushup, divebomber, bend and thrust, sit up, leg-lift routine for 4-5 sets every day (or twice a day).

THEN you might be almost ready and prepared.

Trust me, if you do not do this until you almost pass out, you will not be prepared.

go to trainforstrength.com for further. Fish has fought in Superbrawl and trains Inoue and various MMA'ers for their fights.

Crossfit has outstanding routines as well.

STOP GOING TO THE GYM!!!!!

This will NOT prepare you for the academy. Do not pick up a single weight!!!

I don't just go to the gym to train, but to try to stay in good physical shape.
