View Full Version : Antelope Valley office: Any Information?
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has information on the Antelope Valley Office. Got my assignment and just wanted to see if anyone had some helpful insight on the area.
Specifically:
-Is it seniority or rotational?
-Good places to live, or better yet, places not to live? (Looking to rent a 2+bed/2+bath for my wife and I)
-etc...
Thanks in advance!

Good Office. Get ready to take fatals. Avoid the east side of both Lancaster and Palmdale.

I never worked in AV but I used to work So Division Auto Theft and work many cases out there.
I'm sure its a seniorty system there for beats, shifts and days off. It has always been a senior area with not a lot of cadets going in there so be prepared to be at the bottom of the barrel for awhile.
The good news is its a busy area with a lot of activity and I'm sure you are going to have a good experience. You will never have to worry about looking to hard for someone to put into jail.
I agree with BMM to avoid eastern Palmdale or Lancaster. Quartz Hill area of Lancaster is nice. Good luck. You report just in time for some hot weather in the desert.

Well, I live here in the A. V. and its decent, it has its bad areas and good areas just like anywhere else. As far as getting a house, both sides of town have their good and bad sides. I am not sure that you will find a 2 bed 2 bath in a decent neighborhood seeing as all of the new houses in the nicer areas are bigger. It all depends on the neighborhood and how much you want to spend. I have had several ride alongs out of the office and i personally know a few officers. From what they have told and what I have seen it is a great office. Everyone gets along great. Well I hope I helped feel free to ask.

Why rent? You can buy in AV and you get a lot more for your money than you would in the San Fernando Valley or any of the smaller cities around LA.

Very busy office. They don't call it the wild west for nothing. The office where my Explorer post is out of shares the same frequency so we hear all the calls. "Target Rich Environment" If you want a nice apartment and can afford the price look into Santa Clarita. The commute is about 35 mins but it is a far better area for raising a family.

I live in the Quartz Hill area of the Antelope Valley, I have lived here all of my life and I can tell you that the A.V. isn't exactly the best place to raise kids orahave a wife at home all day. I would agree with the other gentlemen with recommeding that you live in Santa Clarita, or in the Lake Hughes/Lake Elizabeth area, if you like the forest. I have seen a HUGE increase in the number of people moving up here from down below on Section 8 vouchers. They always seem to bring their lifestyle with them. It's actually pretty sad. I have a friend who just bought a new two-story house in Quartz Hill for about $454,000.00 and them, not even a week and a half later, here comes the Section 8 people moving into the tract, 3 house down from him. Now he's had the back windshield of his car broken, by one of the Section 8 kids. We know this for a fact because he caught him doing it, as well as recording it on his security cameras. All in all, if I had the choice of living her or Santa Clarita, I would unanimously choose Santa Clarita. I hope this gives you an insight into the Antelope Valley.

I have lived in the A.V. my whole life and I like it just fine. It all comes down to your neighbors. I have a number of friends that live on the west side of town and have more problems with crime than people on the east side. I agree that the free loaders on section 8 that drive new escalades and pack 10 to a house have a big impact on the nicer areas of the of the antelope valley. But like i said, it all comes down to finding a neighborhood with the right people in it. As far as the santa clarita valley. I have worked there for over 3 years now and i have seen the very same problems roll into that area as i have the A.V. No matter where you go there will be crime. Its just a little more hidden In the SCV than the A.V. due to the much higher cost of living there.

I read in the news paper yesterday that the Santa Clarita Valley is the Third safest city in the Nation!
