Hello Everyone! My husband received his packet on Thursday!!!! I am wondering where everyone will be staying that weekend? I've seen some old posts and the packets listed a few hotels too. I think we are going to book a room at the Extended Stay America Hotel there on Stillwater Rd. It's close to the academy and has food options close too!!!

If anyone is interested in getting some dinner early evening on sunday the 17th let me know. I live in sacramento so i know some good places to eat. It might be a good idea for a bunch of us to get together before we start, it might get some gitters out.

FYI, I was just talking with one of the officers that I know, he said that he stayed at that extended stay for a recent training, and it was one of the worst rooms he had ever stayed in.. He said it was so dirty he went to the store and bought cleaning supplies and cleaned the room himself.... I only pass this along so you lucky souls that will be there for the June 18 start get a good night sleep before hand... Congrats all that got your invite, and if nothing else hope I will see you there in October!

You might try checking Priceline and Hotwire. You can usually get a decent hotel in the area for under $50 a night. Check out biddingfortravel.com for help on how to use these 2 sites.

I stayed at the Extended Stay on Stillwater as well as the Extended Stay off El Camino, they were both clean but very basic. No room cleaning-well, they'll do it but you pay extra. No toiletries in case you forgot yours-but they have a vending machine where you can purchase anything you might need. There is plenty of food options near by.
I stayed at the Harbor Inn when they had the State contract and would never stay there by my own choice. I understand they've done some remodeling in the last couple of years, so things might be different. But there are so many other choices and I wouldn't want to be in the room next to the one they found the dead guy in. Just my opinion.
Good luck with your career choice. I look forward to telling any of you where to go!

Extended Stay on Stillwater is a good hotel! Stayed their probably 5 times and have never had a bad experience. Not to mention, you are 100yds from Panda Express, Starbucks, Jack in the box, Quiznos Subs! On pickup day you are only .02 miles east of the east roadway edge prolongation of Camp Snoopy. Which gives you more time to suck down Latte's at Starbucks and less time in traffic. Now, Im jones"N" for some Starbucks:redface:

i know a wife who's hubby graduated in march she stayed there w/ 2 kids & liked the room. it seems pretty nice when i meet my hubby at the subway's sandwich place on liberty. my hubby left our house at 4:30am to be at the academy that is 45min from us just to be sure he was there w/ no worries. the hotel is 2mins literally from the academy i'd go w/ it. like the above post said starbucks, j.i.b, panda express, & a gas station in the same block. enjoy:biggrin:

There is a Holiday Inn express about 3 minutes from the academy, good rooms and good rates.

The Harbor Inn is very close to the Academy.....that's where several of us stayed the night before we reported. I've stayed there a time or two since, and I hope they've improved it because it was a real dump last time I was there.

Hey - either way, it's just one night. Enjoy a nice big bed and a television in your room for the last time for the next seven months!

Congrats to all of you.

Just booked a room at the Extended Stay on Stillwater, the lady at the front desk claimed the academy is directly across from the hotel. It looks super close

The Extended Stay is right across the street (at a bit of an angle) from the Academy. I stayed there for some training in March. The moment I walked in, I noticed the room smelled like feet and cigarettes. My feet were clean, and I don't smoke. But, hey, it's like 70 bucks a night. And you're only there for one night, cadets.

Mac is right when he says to enjoy your bed and TV that last night, because there is absolutely nothing comfortable at the Academy for 27 weeks. Don't think for a minute you're going to enjoy your rack (bed) while you're there, because it seemed like fifty years worth of cadets enjoyed my mattress before I did. And don't get me going about the blankets. I'd wager 90% of the dust you can shake off of those wool things are flakes of human skin. The other 10% is divided up between sweat, dried mucous, dust, and solidified farts. THAT'S MOTIVATING! Academy is a semi-crappy experience, but a GREAT memory.

It's funny, as much as I hated my rack; I didn't want to leave it for PT at 0430. Where ever you stay, be sure and hit up the Starbucks across the street the morning before. If you see some guys in red polo shirts, make sure to introduce yourself.

That's pretty disgusting.

When you get there, try to sleep in such a manner that you don't accidentally pull the blanket anywhere near your mouth in the middle of the night. If you wake up with the vague taste of tortillas and 9-volt batteries in your mouth, that means you licked the blanket. Or the Ether Bunny visited you.
