Hey everybody!!!

I just found this site today and have been spending the last hour reading through posts and i have found a lot of good information.

On Jan. 7th i will be taking the written test for the very first time. I had a friend that took it about a month ago and failed it so this worries me a little. I am in college, Cal Poly Pomona, and will be graduating in June so i believe that my education level will help me out, BUT i still worry.
I have been studying Norman Hall's Exam prep. book, but what else should i be looking for in the test? Any info. will be greatly appreciated.

In regards to the physical ability test, i know that i will be doing the running, the ab test, and grip test. Will i also have to do push-ups, pull-ups, and sit-ups for the test? Thanks again

Hey and welcome,

Your study book will help you on the written, but also check out the CHP Applicant study guide for more help. It is super helpful with the essay and missing word sections of the exam. All of the PAT tests are also outlined there; heck the entire hiring process all the way through what to bring to the academy is in that thing. I've read it few times and am getting ready to read it again as I have the QAP coming up the same weekend you will be taking the written.

Follow this link for the study guide http://www.chp.ca.gov/recruiting/html/studyguide.html

Best of luck to you,

Hello everyone,

I am glad that I was able to find this site. I have a general question. I am scheduled to take the cadet CHP written exam next month. Assuming that I am successful through the process when I will be receiving an invitation to the CHP academy. I read some threads that it takes a year or longer before you get invited to the academy. I really would like to be part of this excellent department. I had applied to a few police departments in the bay area, in fact I have been contacted by my Background investigator to start my process; however, my desire for CHP is greater than being part of any municipal police department. Any thoughts?:

Continue to sort through our threads. You'll find way more info than you'll find in the booklet. The time frames you've already discovered are accurate. A year is average but as dw wrote, and he knows more about it than anyone here since he's a BI, they shoot for six months but almost always go longer. You really have to be driven in order to go through the process.
