Anyone know anything about Silver State Helicopters (SSH) out of Oakland Airport? From what I've read, they either have a great part-time program or are a pyramid scheme... I really only care if their instructors are any good. I haven't heard anything positive about the program at Buchanan (16528, care to comment?) and it's farther from home. Does San Jose have anything decent?

DW,
I'm a pilot in the Sacramento area. SSH operates out of McClellan (KMCC) I beleive. Seems like that may be too far for you to drive. There was a flight school at Reid Hillview (KRHV) in San Jose that provided helicopter instruction. It's been about 2.5 years since I've flown out of RHV. I'm a fixed wing guy. Sorry for the limited knowledge regarding helicopter instruction. Take Care.

Silver State also has a facility in Los Banos and they extend law enforcement personnel good deals. They provide contract helicopter work out of Los Banos for Merced Cnty S.O. They all have been real friendly when we stop in for fuel, and they provide instruction in R-44's and R-22's.

Sounds like I need to check out Silver State, Reid Hillview, and Diamond Aviation out of San Carlos. Should probably take intro flights with each to see how I like them...

Now the question is: Do I really want to take out a second on my house and do this?

Any input from pilots is appreciated. I know -- I really need to take a (couple) intro flights before I make any decisions, but I really enjoy flying shotgun.
