My BI just contacted me and let me know that she'll be scheduling my final interview in January.
I'm not sure how to feel about it. I waver between, "Yes, I'm getting closer!" and "Damn, Am I disqualified?"
Anyone know if the final interview is a good thing or a bad thing?

I'm pretty sure it's part of the standard process, but I'm guessing one of the Officers or someone that is further along in the process would have a more definite answer for you.

I wish I was that far along in the process. From what I understand the final BI interview is SOP. I?ve also learned from this site that if the BI is recommending you for the academy that he/she will be providing you with some valuable information that should be paid close attention. Check out posts by Nellie and Res Q for more. Darth Choke pretty much lived the process over on CHP.net, lots of good information from that guy.
Good luck and congrats on getting this far.

Thanks guys.
Let me rephrase the question. Has anyone ever been dq'd during backgrounds? If so, in what manner did they do so? And was it prior to your final interview?
I don't foresee any reason for them to dq me, but I'd like to perceive the final interview as a positive step towards the ultimate goal.

If something came up, they would call me in and talk with me about whatever with himself and a Sgt. and then determine to continue or to stop the process right there.
If there were no issues, he would call me in for an final interview.
That all being said, good luck!

I will, as I have been during the entire process.

This is based upon when I worked backgrounds. When your BI completes his/her investigation, you will be called and a final interview scheduled. Everyone who gets to backgrounds will have a final interview. Everyone who is at the Academy has had one. It is the final step of the background process. Normally, you are told at the end of the interview if you are being recommended for appointment to the Academy or not. If not, you are told why. It can be stressful. Good Luck.
Now go do some pushups, pullups, leg lifts, and run.

Thanks. I can handle stressfull. Anxious anticipation, not so much. I assume they will be grilling me on certain aspects of my background. At my initial interview, they seemed to be concerned about the number of fights I've been in. BI stated, "Be cautious of the three B's: bills, booze, and broads." hehe
This is a suit and tie affair. Correct?

Definitely suit and tie.
Just to clarify, everyone has a final interview. At the end of the interview, you will be told if you are to continue in the hiring process or be disqualified.
