CHP 11-99

After being in the hiring process for 3 years and 7 attempts through Backgrounds, I have officially given up. You might think, I have a long and descriptive history, but I don't. The issue was a misunderstanding on discrepancy, which I have tried to clear up for the past 3 years, but no prevail. I will not go into detail because it's confidential. I have exercise all my options and you know as an applicant when to move on.
It's difficult to go through a same division, which all the background investigators and Sergeant's know you by your first name. It's even complex when you stand out among other applicants because of your ethnicity and the feeling, like you don't belong.
I have traveled up and down California for the hiring process and spent over $5K, trying to turn my dream of being a CHP officer into reality. I guess everything happens for a reason, but I am glad I applied to the CHP.
I have learned alot about myself through out the hiring process and it has made me a better person.
I have been preparing for the CHP academy for 3 years and now, I can finally run 10 miles with a problem and I find this truly remarkable.

Tremendous! What a valiant effort and a lot of patience you have invested in the application process, and I'm glad your spirit is still strong and not vengeful with remorse. A true contender.
But...
Why limit yourself to just the CHP when there are other outstanding LE agencies out there? ( Yes, in my eyes, the CHP stands out as THE FINEST so I may know why you're biased, if you are. ) If the line of work the CHP consists of has kept your interest for the past 3 and some years, why not give another LE agency a go at it?
I know the FBI and CIA are always hiring and then there's also the ATF and I believe the Office of Special Investigations in the AF hire civilian employees as well, so your options are wide. And, if you stand out from the rest of the candidates because of your ethnicity, your chances of thriving in one of these departments may very well be a reality. Give it a shot! And aim for accuracy!!!
Good luck CHP 11-99!

Here is a secret, you can be shady background and work for corrections then jump over to chp, I know people that do that..
my 2 cents...I'm not even sure what that means... If you're saying that CDC will pick someone up with more background "issues," then that person then shapes up for a few years and demonstrates stable employment, yes -- I suppose some people do that.

A shady background will follow you no matter where you go to work prior to applying of CHP. Working for CDC will not erase your mistakes, only time will heal.

Sometimes, I wonder about other applicants and their mindset. Why go around the situation and waste your efforts!
I am 27 years old and I still have 8 more years to apply to the CHP, if I choose to reapply again. In my situation, time will make a difference.
When I first started the CHP testing process, I was on full throttle and had a mindset on being a CHP officer. For the past 4 years, I have lived and breath for the California Highway Patrol. Alot of my friends and family joined the 11-99 Foundation because they knew that I wanted to join the finest law enforcement agency in the world.
I might not be the paragon applicant, but I would have "lay my life down than swerve through the path of duty"....

If I had 8 years left to apply, I would know what i am doing with my free time and sick days for the next 8 years. I would not reccomend giving up just yet! If you are truley as good of an applicant as you think you are then there shouldn't be any problem for you getting into the acadamy within the next 8 years. Did the CHP ask you to not reapply? Why stop now? You have spent the last three years trying to get a job with the finest law enforcement agency in the state. Why not spend another 8?:noidea: If this is what you truely want, find that one thing that motivates you more than anything, and press forward to try again. Just two cents from another applicant.

I had a partner that applied for nine years before he was picked up. Only you know for sure whether your time would be best spent elsewhere.
