I've created this site to promote an open exchange of ideas and information. The site itself is a work in progress and I will be making improvements over time. Please contact me with any suggestions to improve the forum.

There are some basic forum topics to start with. We'll see how they go and if any should be revamped or new topics created. Additionally, I hope to add a smilie collection in the near future

There is also a limited collection of avatars to put next to your name in posts. You can access these through the My Profile, Edit Profile menus. Members have the ability to upload any avatar they choose and CHPForums may include it in our avatar collection.

And if you're like me -- a product of spell check -- I'd recommend downloading Google's toolbar http://toolbar.google.com, as it has a built-in spellchecker.

Happy Posting!

Nice site dw. The only other thing I'd like to see would be a "view your posts" feature. You click on it and it brings up all the thread titles you have posted on. Unless of course I'm as blind as a bat and just can't find it.

SB 405 --

There are two ways to view a specific users posts. If you go to Members and select a member, it should show the last 10 posts. You can also use the Search by Posted By and it will return all a members posts.

I've changed this Sticky slightly. Feel free to post any comments and/or suggestions for the board here.

I suggest you retire, but not eliminate, the old CHP message board. Move the site, create a link to it from here, and redirect the old address to this new forum. It doesn't make sense to keep both alive.

Hey Nellie,

This was posted by DW in another thread.... FYI

I appreciate the kind words, guys. I really can't take much credit. Hell, I stole the idea for this from whoever started chp.net (I still haven't been able to locate him/her.) Called in a favor from a buddy who owns SoliSys (http://www.solisys.com), and here we are.

Coming over from chp.net, I appreciate the new format - A LOT. There's a section here for applicant families then one for Chippies. How about Chippy Families? It could be our small effort to reduce the CHP divorce rate, n'est-ce pas?

Chp.net and this site help me better understand my husband's milieu. I'd like to be able to view the Chippy section, but understand that it's not my place. I may be a key part to my husband's success, but I'll never really be able to walk in his boots. ;)

BTW, Once this site is more developed, I'll stop bothering with chp.net.

Would you suggest the family forum be public or private? I'm not sure how I can verify family members -- I guess I could just use a name and ID reference as I do for the Chippies section.

While we're on the topic, I'm thinking about getting rid of the unused dispatch section and making one non-uniformed heading under the general CHP discussions.

dw - I'm thinking private would be better. Public stuff can be discussed under your other topics. Whatever you decide, I'll work with it. Thanks.

great work DW..thanks for the effort. I appreciate the time it take to moderate this. I also think this is a great place for new folks (i.e. academy hopefuls). I also think that if you guard the private site by only allowing members yourself...you will be able to maintain a nice place for folks to come and discuss statewide issues so there is some solidarity amongst the officers and you can maintain a focus for pushing proposals/ideas/etc through at higher levels.

Best of Luck...

see ya on the road in 6 months!

Any Departmental family members who would be interested in a private forum, please email me ( admin@chpforums.com ) so I can get an idea if anyone is interested. I'm not aware of who is family and who is not.

If you would, please send the name, ID, area name & number of the family member on the Department -- that way if I create a topic, I'll already have the information to add you.

Could you add a "cadet-only" section? This could be a section to allow academy cadets to communicate over the weekends, asking questions, making suggetsions, etc. This section would give cadets and "select" officers access, allowing those officers to provide helpful input where necessary. Do you think this is a good idea, or just something that may get us into trouble?

Nellie, the thought crossed my mind in the past. I don't think creating a Cadets only section is something I want to get into -- there are too many issues associated with doing it here. The least of which would be verifying who is a Cadet. The real problem that I see is walking the line of content and [possibly] being put into a position to have to make the decision about something that needs to be disclosed to the Academy Staff. It's a bag of worms that I don't want to open.

Just hang on a few months and we have a private forum with your name on it!

dw...are you talkin about a forum separate from the applicant family forum to be public or private or in place of it?...i am an applicant in the final stages and as i said previously in another post, i am learning a great deal, pre-academy, on this site. I appreciate the questions and comments by all. thanks
