Good call. I was wondering the same thing. That show was great.

Scott Weinberg writes: "According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wilmer "Fez" Valderrama is set to star in the big-screen adaptation of the 70's cop show "Chips." Whether or not this project will be any better than the big-screen adaptation of the 80's car-fest "The Dukes of Hazzard" is anyobdy's guess.

"Wilmer Valderrama will star as motorcycle cop Ponch in Warner Bros. Pictures' big-screen version of "CHiPs." The studio has just acquired the rights for the TV series and has set Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove to adapt. Erik Estrada famously originated the Ponch role in "CHiPs," which ran on NBC in the late 1970s and followed the adventures of California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers Francis "Ponch" Poncherello and Jon Baker. Larry Wilcox played Baker. The show had a serious macho tone, but over the years has achieved a cheesy, cult status. Sources say the project was built around the involvement of Valderrama, best known as Fez on "That '70s Show."""

Don't think I'd waste my money to go see this. However I'm sure it's going to end up on DVD within a month of being released so I might pay a couple of bucks to rent it.

Yeh, I'm pretty sick of the cheezy CHiPs remakes. I wish someone would write a gritty, true-to-life, crime drama for the big screen with the CHP at the center. Unfortunately, executive management has to approve and they'd never allow us to appear like normal human beings. That's why CHiPs became so ridiculous; executive management back then wanted wouldn't approve anything edgy. Look at the Third Watch; what a great cop series. You know this upcoming movie, if it ever gets released, is going to be a joke with 'Fez' playing Ponch. And why can't there be new officers? Why always Ponch and Jon? Were they superheros or something? I'm still waiting to receive my ultralight flight training, jet ski training, etc., . . .

LOL....yeah, 22 years later and I STILL haven't gotten to rollerblade or jet-ski in uniform, or do undercover work at a disco surrounded by beautiful, scantily-clad women! I have yet to see a Cadet riding a motor on patrol in his "smurf suit", either. Ponch makes a good avatar, though! <g>

I'm sure the movie will be cheesy, but I'll probably rent it when it comes out on DVD just for the heck of it. It should be good for a few laughs and a lot of eye-rolling.

That series was filmed down here in LA on what was then uncompleated freeways still under construction. Every once in a while I'd see one of the studio trucks towing a trailer with two motorcycle frames attached to it. That's what they used when you would see shots of Ponch and John riding side by side and the carmera would only shoot them from the waist up. And just why was it that EVERYTIME a car was rear ended it always rolled over?

Hey what ever happened to that show Real Stories of The Highway Patrol? I always liked watching because it was done in that "COPS" style. And then the CHP Commissioner whould do his "seat belts save lives" talk into the camera when the show ended while sitting on the desk in his office. What's the deal, current Comish not into that sort of thing?

Well lets see...so far I have ridden motors, worked undercover, ridden a snowmobile on-duty, written and served search warrants, oh-yeah and rode a quad on-duty.

So I guess I need to do the roller blade thing at the beach and I will almost be there!

Yeah! I loved watching Real Stories of the Highway Patrol when I was in grade school. LOL. It must be 10 years now since I've last seen a rerun of it. CBS should bring it back; in my opinion that show was way better than Cops, especially with the CHP front and center in most of the stories, without the Hollywood BS.

Fox Reality Channel (http://www.foxreality.com/schedule.php?month=12&year=2005&date=2005-12-15&timezone=3) shows it still playing....Anyone have this channel to confirm it is the same show?

EDIT-- I guess I do! But, it appears this is the show that follows all state troopers, not just California's finest. Recording the midnight show tonight...will update sometime this weekend.

BTW, Channel 250 on Direct TV total choice package.

DOUBLE EDIT It is the same show.....
