Don't get me wrong, I've been preparing for this for a while, but does anyone have any last minute suggestions? Any general themes aside from what's in the Applicant Study Guide I should be thinking about for the essay portion? Is formal attire suggested? Anyone else on here taking the exam Saturday for Valley Division? Most of my questions have probably been answered in other threads, but I'm excited, so I felt like asking them again. Thanks.

Just remember "intro, body and conclusion" for the essay. Or as somebody put it once: "Tell 'em what you're gonna tell 'em, Tell 'em, then Tell 'em what you told 'em". HOW you write is more important than WHAT you write....think sentence structure, vocabulary and spelling. Good luck!

Like Mac said, be sure and have a beginning, a middle, and an end to your story. Re-read what you write... twice. Oh and make sure your pencil has a good eraser.

Good luck, hopefully I'll see you at the PAT in January.

Well, that wasn't too bad. I'm not totally sure my essay was detailed enough, but structurally it was sound. The multiple choice seemed to go pretty smooth too. The turnaround for results is about 3 or 4 weeks? Looks like about a month before the PAT comes up. Tomorrow they are having a Cadet Seminar at the Academy in Sac, anyone know what they're covering up there? I'm planning on going either way....

When I took the test in June of this year, it took them about a week or so to release the scores, as the PAT was exactly two weeks after the written test. I hope you got alot of good information out of the seminar, I think it is a good look at the process. Just remeber, as everyone else on this forum will tell you, don't get worried if you do not hear from the CHP after you get a Conditional JOb Offer. I sent in my signed Conditional JOb Offer Acceptance in September and still haven't heard anything yet from any BI. Anyways, good luck with the PAT,PSYCH, & QAP. If you have any questions about those test be sure and search because I am sure any possible questions have been asked 1,000 times before. Good luck, and stay with it.

Yep. Thanks. I'm pretty psyched after tonight. It was pretty intimidating just walking on the academy grounds as an applicant, but I think I'm having a more nervous/excited feeling that nervous/scared out of my mind one now. The information was pretty standard, but good to hear it from people, rather than just the CHP web site. I ended up meeting a couple of nice people, and it was interesting to see some of the others applying, so all in all a good experience. I think I might end up heading back down towards the Bay Area and doing another ride along if I have work off this weekend...that should be fun as always. Take it easy people.
