I attended my psych on 3-14-07 and thought that I could get into CTC I-07. I believe that I will be attending CTC II-07 which might just be better. It will give me more time to prepare my self and what would be a better gift for X-Mas than to be a sworn in Officer of the State.

remember...run run run and read read read...

Will there be a CTC-III-07? (I know, it may be a really obvious question but I dont know)

One of the B.I.'s will probably give you a more positive answer.....but I'd guess they'll be shooting for 240 cadets again.

On that KCRA piece they said there were a 137 (or some such number) of cadets graduating. That's pretty crazy since I assume they started with 240.

Never assume. They started with 180 cadets. CTC IV-06 also started with 180 cadets.

That's still a big 'ol drop.

It actually seems kinda low. My class lost 33% between reporting and graduation.

Maybe they were all spending their liberty studying and got stressed out:rolleyes:

There are spelling tests weekly at the California Highway Patrol Academy. Make sure you are comfortable with your grammar and spelling. I had classmates that lost wednesdays and other liberties for failing spelling tests.

Reading some of these posts, I think some might need an additional college course in basic level English.

Is it true that the department has dropped the essay portion of the written test and that the minimum QAP score for a pass is now 75?

As my good friend ResQ would say: "If you have gone ahead and made a decision using the assumption, you have merely acted upon the lowest form of information."

The essay portion is no longer part of the written exam. As far as I know, the QAP score should be 80.

80 may be passing, but you need to remember that you are competing against people with 80's who also have veterans preference= automatic 90. Also, all the candidates that scored above you with out the veterans preference points. Try not worrying about what the lowest score is, but how you can receive the highest possible score.

I heard from the Lieutenant at my local CHP office that the required QAP score has been lowered to 70 to move on in the process. I would guess the people with higher scores would be first to enter backgrounds, but I could be mistaken.

I have a question...according the video, (in the PT thread) the CHP is authorized to hire 240 more officers. If this last class graduated 136 officers, and we assume the next class (April) will have approximately the same number. When the October class rolls around, will they even be having a class (as they would have exceeded the 240 officers needed)?

My recurring nightmare...I waive the June class so I can take a couple last summer school classes, and don't get into to October because of a hiring freeze!

Keep in mind also that many officers retire every rotation (130 I read somewhere, but that could be a shot in the dark.)

No problem, you seem very enthusiastic! I'd encourage you to search for information on the web other than here and share just as I did. We all want to be more informed.

For those who don't think they are going to make into next Monday's Academy, remember they can call you in all the way up through the first week of academy. I was in your shoes back in December. I had finished all of the application steps but had not heard yet if they were sending me to that academy or if I had passed my psych. I just kept training, it helped that I do triathlons/marathons so I had to train for a February half-marathon anyways. Just keep running, doing calisthenics, and cross-training (cycling, swimming, etc.). These will help you persevere at the Academy.
