Hello, Im getting ready to start the appication process, but Im slighly colorblind. So I decided to goto a clinic here and test myself. I failed the first test I took, and thats the one where they have the circle with the numbers in it. On the CHP test how many can you miss. While I was there I also took a second test which the CHP uses if you fail the first one. I passed that one, but It kinda threw me off. I talked to the recruiter and he said that I would be good to go. My question is can you miss any on either test and still pass. Thanks for your time.

Ah! This is right up my alley!

When I joined the military I found that I was “color deficient”. Basically, when they held those colored dot covered cards in front of me, (the Ishihara color test), I, for the life of me, could never pass.

Now, the CHP does require that, to become an officer, you are able to pass the color vision test. However, the CHP offers two color vision tests, the Ishihara as well as the Farnsworth D-15 test.

During my PAT, they first offered me the Ishihara color test, which I failed. The officer then let me take the Farnsworth D-15 test, which I passed (100%) with ease, (go figure). As long as you can pass one of the two, the CHP is happy. (I just successfully completed my background investigation with the CHP).

Its good that you went to an eye doctor before hand and took the Farnsworth; I did exactly that as well. It sounds like you're in the same boat I was. Don't sweat it; as long as you passed the Farnsworth test, don't worry about the colored dots. (I think they're rigged anyway... jk)

Cheerio, good luck!

What if I was to mix the colors on the Farnsworth? Would that DQ me?

I don't know what the passing score for the Farnsworth is...that would have to be a question answered by recruiting.

I spoke to my recruiter today, and he said that I can have minor errors, just not too many. But I can pass it. Like he said just show up.

Certain errors are allowed. You can ask over and over again but the only way to find out if you are going to pass is take the test.
