Are you nervous? I'm starting to feel it. As I study my SOPs and PT like crazy its all sinking in. We are soon to be thrust into the thick of it, and with 240 cadet spots, it should be pretty thick! Life is about to change as we all know it and I hope we all come out on the other end wearing a badge. There are a lot of us who are attending CTC I-07 who post on this forum, its a great resource.
Do cadets usually get the first weekend liberty? I've looked back and seen posts from cadets after their first week at the academy so I could assume yes, but... By the way, that weekend is Easter.

I'm just going to take one day at a time and if I get the first weekend even better. Just take one day and one evolution at a time.

It's count down time!
Is it too soon to inquire about orientations? Has anyone got a call yet?

Saturday the 24th 9am, family invited no small babies. I'm jumping out on a limb here also...if you're not one of the 240 then don't come.
They should be calling now to tell you Who what when why and where

Fellow Cadets
We only have two more weeks until we get started. My recommendation for those who will be attending is to be spend time with your family. Getting up early is good to prepare but even if you don't your body will adjust quickly. The one thing I did not take into account when I went in the Navy was the amount of caffeine I was drinking. I was drinking about three 32oz sodas a day. During the first week of boot camp I had caffeine withdraw headaches. It is one thing to have someone in your face yelling at you but when your head is pounding also it is not fun. I would still get to the gym and get your sweat on but also just relax too. For those going to the golden gate orientation I will see you there.

Was the call from SPB or CHP recruitment?

I'm headed out April 2nd but haven't heard any info on an orientation. Is it being held at the academy or does each division have their own? Is there any sort of RSVP needed? Thanks for the info!

Each division does its own Orientation seminar. I went to the last one in December and learned a lot. My recruiter thought I might be invited last minute to the December academy so she had me come. I took my family and they learned a lot. It was on the Thursday night before the academy started. Division called me a few days in advance to invite me. If you don't get invited, don't go, it is for cadets and their families to attend only. It will give you an idea of what to expect at the academy. At the one I went to, they showed us an informative video of the academy as well, left my mother-in-law wide-eyed  lol . You will have the opportunity to ask questions as well. If you are April 2, 2007 academy bound, you will be contacted via phone of the time and day for your orientation. At least that's how it was for me.

Each Division has their own orientation. If your background was completed by Valley Divison AND YOU HAVE RECEIVED AND ACCEPTED AN INVITATTION you should receive a call inviting you to the orientation this Saturday at the Academy. If you have not received a call by Wednesday evening regarding the orientation, give your background investigator a call.

WOW....240 Cadets in ONE Class.....there will be cadets falling out of cracks in the walls at CHP summer camp. Which is what it is, by the way... a cozy 27 weeks of shirt stays, fat tables, mystery gumbo, 4am PT, blisters, cold shower water, uncomfortable wool blankets, screaming, stress, weight loss, cadet blue uniforms, boot shining, late night studying, 16-18 hour work days, 4am PT, hustling everywhere, sitting in your closet the night of pick up day and wondering "what the hell am i doing here?".....did i mention 4am PT???
AHHHH.....memories!
Future Cadets, be proud of how far you've gotten. I remember how proud I was. The Academy will be much more intense than you can fathom at this point. Keep us updated on progress, I eagerly await hopefully 10 or more officers to my office. God Bless seniority! :surprised:

Thanks for the tip. I got my invitation a few weeks ago but I'm in Golden Gate division. I've been going through the lists they give us (getting boots, shoes, contact info, etc) but haven't heard anything about an orientation. I guess I'll keep waiting for the phone call. Anyone else from Golden Gate division heard anything?

I believe the golden gate orientation is going to be on Tuesday the 27th at 7pm in Vallejo. I would call to confirm though.

Whatever you do....make sure you remind the Academy Staff that Easter falls on the first weekend...that way, they can reserve a spot for you in the Pit...
Ok, ALL joking aside...do not Assume anything (the word speaks for itself), and do NOT make advance plans for anything outside the Academy. Your focus will be one day at a time...survive today...live till tomorrow.

...but I would only make that assumption based on what others have said here. I'm trying to go into the academy with no assumptions other than I'll be pushed beyond anything I've ever done and molded into one of the nation's finest. I have made no plans during the next six months while at the academy. I think you have to view it as a completely live-in, life consuming training time where time off comes infrequently and is a luxury, not a right. For six months your devoted to one cause and one alone, you can't afford to be distracted it seems. These forums have given me a better grasp of what it will be like at the academy. From what I gather, you go in expecting something and then bam!...your expectations are blown to bits and your trying to pick those bits up off the floor, while your down there doing pushups for something you expected not to happen! I don't know about you guys, but I'm excited!

Good Luck to all of you new cadets, entering in April. My husband is 1/2 way done. He is in CTC:IV-06.
My best advice that I got from him is not to expect anything. No matter how much you train beforehand, you will be in a culture shock for the first couple weeks and when you first start PT. He lost 35 pounds in the first 3 months, and he's still losing.
Keep an open mind and trust yourself. Get to know your roommates and the other cadets. These are friendships that will last a long time.
Tell your wives, girlfriends or significant others about this website. I met some great women on here who totally understand what I am going through, without me saying much. They will help your family get them through this process. Without them, I don't think that I could survive without my husband for 6 months.
Good luck to you guys and girls!!

Katy, I agree. That is good advice. This website has helped me TREMENDOUSLY in knowing what to expect, support from other family members experiencing the same thing, etc! I just wish there were more family members contributing in the family section of this forum. Tell them about this website. It really will help them, which in turn will help YOU guys to get through this easier as far as family support goes. Family support will be more important than you can ever imagine.

...and do NOT make advance plans for anything outside the Academy.
When I was going through the academy it was during summer. I had two of my best friends getting married and therefore I was in two seperate weddings on a weekend in June and a weekend in July. Talk about pressure not to fail a test! Trust Yzeman, DO NOT make any plans. It's too stressful. Just be grateful for what you do get off.
Best of luck to all of you starting April 2!

Remember and live by these words, and you will be fine. Your Academy training will be very difficult, and at times, incredibly demanding, but your words are exactly how you should be feeling...including being excited! Excited people are usually motivated people, and you will need motivation to successfully complete the Academy.
Good luck all of you!

Holyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-Smoke!! 240 in a class. We started with 60 and ended with 53 from the Old Academy (3100 Meadowview Road - Whattaplace!)
I was assigned to Sgt's Technical training in the last year or so before I retired. Happened to be on the first day of a new class. I was standing there looking at the Cadets and their suitcases and it occurred to me that the greatest percentage of the people in that class were NOT EVEN BORN when I went through the Academy in 1970. Pass the Geritol.

How do things like National guard weekends work while in the Academy?
