First off I'd like to thank the active members of this board for the wealth of information available on this site. I recently started the hiring process and am looking forward to someday recieving that same acceptance letter in the mail.

I'm processing through the central division in Bakersfield. I just recieved the letter that I passed the written (which, by the way, was the most difficult LE written exam I've ever taken) and am scheduled for the PT test on 3/24 in Clovis. I'm curious if anyone has any feedback on what the written test "score" equates to? I'm also curious as to what I should be doing to prepare for the oral board. We were told that the PT test will be on 3/24, the written psych. on 3/25, and the oral interviews will start immediately that following week. I'm wondering what type of Dept. history ,etc. I should be honing up on. I don't want to wait until I've passed my PT test to start preparing for the oral board. The recruiters suggested scheduling a mock interview prior to, but I'm not sure there will be enough time to accomplish that. Any ideas?

I know I was a bit long winded for my first post, but I appreciate all the feedback. Thanks again and congratulations to the April academy bound cadets!!

Welcome to the CHPForums. Thanks to DW, this site is full of info.

As for the score, all the officers on this site are going to tell you the same thing, "it means nothing". On previous threads all the officers say that it is just a score that the CHP allows POST to put on the letter. The written is a pass/fail test, the only thing in the process that is not pass/fail is the QAP.

As far as the info goes for the QAP, try to find out if the recruiters are giving a seminar in your area. I recently just went to a QAP seminar and there was a wealth of information, one big thing the recruiters did say is read up on the history of the CHP and know the "5 points on the badge".

Good Luck.

At our local HQ, they had QAP workshops, the 3 days prior to the PAT. See if your division HQ has one. If you don't know how to find it, go to the CHP website, near the top in very small blue letters, click on "Offices."

These workshops will tell you what to expect. Basically, know everything you can about the CHP, what they do (read the little pictured pamphlets they send n your app packet), sit up straight, address the interviewer as "sir/ma'am," get rid of "ums, uhs" etc. from your speech, know your PHS and STD 678 (go online and type it out in Adobe-gets you bonus points) backwards and forwards.

I am not an officer (yet) but did well on my oral by following the above advice given to us at a workshop.

and know the "5 points on the badge".
You might want to go as far as learning what all 7 points on the badge mean, since most of us have 7 points on our badge not 5.

Welcome aboard, KernHills. There is a wealth of information and knowledge here. Play with the "search" function and you'll find lots of past threads about almost any question you could think of.

The advice about attending workshops/seminars is good. You'll get information that will be a great help in preparing you for the testing process and ultimately, the Academy. I'd strongly recommend that you attend them. Good luck!

Here is a document describing it if you really care that much. However, from what I understand, the CHP only cares that you passed.

I found another page that broke it down into a bell curve, but I seem to have misplaced the link. It should be avaliable on the state personnel board website.

Try... driving 125 mph, listening to allied agencies on your scanner, talking on the radio, maintaining a high visual horizon and trying to keep a good visual on the violator's vehicle (and give dispatch a physical discripition of the driver.) Oh, and the most important part...don't forget to ask for AIR SUPPORT!

Just don't try this until you're an officer and working. It wouldn't go over very well in your personal car.
