I am trying to decide whether to spend the extra money and take more time off from work to change my plane ticket to arrive a day earlier to attend this or not. For those of you who have attended in the past or whose spouse/significant other who has attended this, did you/they feel that this seminar (not sure what else to call it) that they hold on the day before graduation was very helpful and informative? Or rather...an event that really should not be missed.

My fiance is very open with me and discusses a lot of what he has learned and what is expected of him with me... so I do not feel like I am in the dark about anything. I don't have a problem with his carrying a gun. I expect that he will work on most holidays, weekends, and work lots of hours, his job/career is a big priority, etc... I am just wondering if this is something I can skip or if I will lose out on a lot of information if I do not attend. I understand this is just yours/their opinion and that is what I am looking for. I appreciate any information you can give me.

Never been, but I'd go. I left in week 2 for a lot of reasons, but there were 2 main ones...life goes on, and FAMILY. The 2 that matter most to me are my fiance & my dad. My fiance would be cool with whatever I do. He was fine with my quitting & would be fine with my re-applying if I chose to (I think about it all the time, but I know it's not gonna happen). But dad...wow. He's always been the one encouraging me to go go go in everything, and was SO thrilled about me doing this, but that acceptance letter changed something, and while he still said he was for it, I could see right through him. Guy was almost in tears one day worrying about the what if's!

So seriously...take ANY family support/info you can get. Even if you feel like a squared away family member, hey, so was my dad.

I have been to the seminar about 2 years ago and really enjoyed it. I was like you and my husband kept me informed about everything he did while he was there and I was not worried about him carrying a weapon either, even though we have young children in our home. The seminar is a good place to meet other spouses and some people whom you could exchange numbers or email addresses with to make friendships with that will last a long time. The seminar helps you put into reality the fact that he will be gone away from home a lot and you will need to learn that it is ok to celebrate holidays on different days and help other family members know that you may not be able to attend family functions as an entire family unit but you truly need everyones support. The other nice aspect of the seminar is that there are spouses of current officers there to answer questions and share their experiences with you about how they adapted their life style since becoming a member of the CHP family. Some of the spouses have been so for years while others are new CHP spouses. It was a great experience for me and I would recommend going if not only for yourself but maybe to meet some of your spouse/significant other quad mates spouses/significant others. I know it seems like a lot of time to take off of work for you now but it may not seem that way in the future when you wish you had more time to spend with you spouse/significant other.

I decided to try to attend, but unfortunately my work won't let me off any sooner than I had already asked for (Thursday afternoon and Friday) due to some important issues that are going on. Thanks to all of you who took the time to reply here or send me a PM.

This is the first I have heard of a Pre-Graduation Seminar. My hubby is in CTC IV-06 and, naturally, I am starting to make plans as I know these next three months will probably FLY (wishful thinking, maybe?). When does this usually occur? Is there anyone who can give me a pretty good idea about the Grad week as I have three little ones under five and definitly need time to make things happen. I am pretty clueless as to Grad details and I don't think Hubby has gotten much since it is a bit too early for them. Any info would be helpful! Thanks.

pupdog,

I had to separate from the academy for medical reasons. I had to make the decision of quitting like you did, and itīs very difficult. Iīm reapplying and testing in two months in the Southern Division. Honestly, chp runs in my blood, and I would never forget myself if I donīt keep trying. I understand I may never get another chance of being invited to the academy, but even if I donīt, Iīll just keep trying. Good luck.
