For the one's whom are attending the April class, what have you packed so far to bring with you?

I don't think anyone has started packing yet. I know I've been accumulating gear for use at the academy. I bought my boots, running shoes(x2), and court shoes. I knew I needed those early so I could start breaking them in and shining them up before 4/2. I still need to get some white towels, and a laundry bag. Not sure about bringing an athletic supporter and sewing kit....thoughts?

Hey guys I work for a hotel down here in LA and it's no problem at all to put together a care package of amenities (even sewing kits) if you need something. PM me with what you need and consider it done.....within reason that is:lol:

I haven't done much packing either. Just my boots and shoes...I'll get my hygeine bag together next week.

Still early... I got my boots broken in and shined. Probably going to buy all my supplies next week and get everything packed, along with another set of running shoes and court shoes.

Here is one helpful hint that is also one of the most simple things you can do to make life easier for you for the 27 weeks. It's a bit selfish, but hey, someone has to do it....
On pick-up day, once the staff office types do their initial yelling drill, they will send you all running and fumbling to your dorms and give you an ungodly short amount of time to get "unpacked", dressed, and back to the classroom. The first thing you should do once you find your dorm is head to the bathroom and throw your toothbrush/shaving kit/etc in the TOP drawer. In know this seems like a little thing, but during the upcoming weeks when there is madness going on in the there after PT, the last thing you want to deal with is the hassle of trying to get to your stuff with everyone in your way.
Just some food for thought - hope it helps and good luck!

That is a very vivid memory for me..although I heard they got rid of the paper bags, that invariably "exploded" upon cadet grabbing........too bad that was a good time!

One bag, light enough to carry around for a while. Don't bother bringing irons, and a whole bunch of extra stuff. Just have the basics for the first week. A bunch of white undershirts and socks/underwear for 5 days plus your personal hygiene stuff is about all you'll need. Anything else will only slow you down and multiple bags may bring extra attention your way. Make sure you pack your boots, court and running shoes in your bag.

You may get a chance to make a trip to the parking lot sometime on the first week, but don't count on it.

I would also recommend a bag that is easy to pick out in a crowd. My bag was urban camo and made things a little easier to find amongst others. That's all I'm sayin' but otherwise enjoy your first week, it's nothing but fun!

Oh man!! They got rid of them?!! That was the best!! Years ago, I heard they even dipped the bottoms of a few select ones in water about an hour before the maddness. What a great time!

Thats even better! I remember the huge "sea" of paper bags...and when it was time to grab and go I picked blind...just grabbing a bag in the middle - Sure as S*&^ I grabbed mine! Great luck that day!

The bags are now blue fabric.
No you won't remember any advice that anybody gives you, but I'll throw out some more about when you have to find your dorm, unpack, change... lock your closet before you leave. They check for that when you go back to the classroom. 1st puch the lever that's at the top of the left door up, then shut the right door, then the key (there will be a test!). Why bother...you won't remember a thing I'm telling you. When I went into the room, I was flying so fast that I didn't shut the outside door, causing a staff officer to come bursting in asking questions while I was in my undies.
And of course we all came flying out of there, belts everywhich way, nametags in wierd places, ties hooked to a tshirt while wearing a short sleeve w/unbottoned top button.
By the way, about this time you'll also start to hate anyone on here that ever used this:badgrin: icon.

Your whole life as a cadet:badgrin:

All the great things needed to make your new life as a cadet comfortable; brass polish, emblems that need to be polished, tie and tie bar to be kept straight, belt to be put on the right direction, templates to keep you writing nice for the staff, sweat pants and shirt to keep you warm during the invigorating morning (and sometimes mid day) workouts, PT shirts for you to try to keep, jacket to keep you warm and comfortable on the cool nights and misty mornings, clipboard to hold your important notes and make your rack beautiful and smooth, belt keepers to hold your duty belt if your are so fortunate as to be bestowed with one, polishing guide to keep your leather goods clean and inspection ready, cover to keep your nasty shaved head out of sight, highligher to assure you never miss any vital information, pens to fill out never ending forms, and the bag itself to hold your nasty laundry.

My thought was because there is no doubt one will ruin a suit with the incredible amount of sweat one will exude that day.

They do tell you have to wear a suit. If you choose to wear something else that day other than a suit the other cadets will appreciate it.

You will get all your info regarding items to bring and what to wear to the academy when you get your hire packet.

Yep - it's always nice to have a "lightning rod" in the group that draws all the fire!

The Academy is not exactly a prime showcase to display how "different" and original you are.

At the Border Division orientation the officers stated not to bring a suitcase into the academy on the first day, they recommended a bag.
What kind of bag are you guys bring in? I'm having trouble finding a bag that will hold all my items. Thanks

There's a chance you will get to go to your car the first night. I have spoken with a few cadets who are currently at the academy and they said they were permitted this, but don't count on it. I'd recommend some type of duffle bag. Go to walmart or something and pick up something like this (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5222987). Not sure what to pack for the first day but I'm thinking of packing toiletries, boots, running and court shoes, towels, swimwear, socks/undershirts/underwear, and cleaning/polishing supplies. They also say to pack some extra professional clothing in case your uniform isn't ready yet. Don't forget your spouse/dependent/vehicle and other info. Any other thoughts on packing:question:
Here's another one (http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/ref=sc_ri_1/601-3801343-6131312?ie=UTF8&asin=B000FUOE48)

Thanks Beaver, I'm hoping they'll let us go to our car. Another thing they said, if your luggage has wheels, don't even bother using them. So everything is hand carried, so pack lightly. I'm taking extra collar shirts for my suit just in case our uniforms are not ready. See ya VERY soon.

On the breath mints, specificaly the linsterine strips. Not only do they pack easy, but a mouthful heps keep you awake during class!

Whatever bag & whatever you pack, make sure it's light enough that you can hold it straight out for a few minutes. I'd tell you why I had to do this, but you'll forget all about it, just as I did!

I found it beneficial to wear a sweats and sneakers with all the running around we did. Under the sweats I wore enough undergarments to last me the entire week. This allowed my bag to be much lighter. In fact, I just took a safeway bag filled with a toothbrush and a washcloth (I just used who ever's was hanging on the door).

With a little search...

So I've submitted the CHP application and they've received it in Sacramento. I'm now left waiting for an invitation to go take the written test which is scheduled on Jun 2nd.

I'm not trying to be an a$$. Okay, maybe I am. At least he has alot of excitement for the process.

Haha...I remember the fun. I remember the sound of M-16's clanking on the ground while the platoon of 100 was holding our weapons straight out infront of us. We also found out that a piece of paper gets equally as heavy after holding it for long enough. Good times!

I was up at the Academy all week for some training, and I got to see your soon-to-be senior class. They looked pretty good, so hopefully that help you all get squared away...because most of you will show up fat and nasty...like most junior cadets. :-) (You'll understand on Monday) It sure was motivating to be up there. Even though the academy pretty much sucks while you're there, try to enjoy the process and the privilege it is to be a part of this organization.
