View Full Version : QAP Test
I passed the PAT in Inland Division this weekend. QAP this Thursday 12/8/05. Any pointers would be appreciated.:
Is there anyone on this forum that tested with Inland on 12/3/05?

Great advice in this thread (http://www.chpforums.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=50) here and here (http://www.chpforums.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=197).
Good luck to both of you! Remember eye contact....start and finish by eye contact with the person that asked the question! Oh, and smile. :D

Oh my goodness. My QAP was this morning. I honestly don't know how it went. My throat was so dry, and I've been sick with the flu, so I was having to cough and constantly clear my throat. What a disaster! I really couldn't tell you how I did. I was most definetely good with eye contact, and answering with "Yes Maam" and "Yes Sir". But I just don't feel like I came across as well as I am capable of.
While driving away, I kept thinking to myself, "Oh I should have said that!" or "I should have said this!"
Oh well. I did my best. I hope it was good enough.

Don't be too hard on yourself krush. I am sure you did ok. I just thought of something I will do Thursday after my interview. While the interview is fresh in your mind, write down things that you thing you said or did poorly. If you receive a passing score, burn the list. If you didn't pass, you will know what to work on for the next time.
If you didn't do well, just look at it as a great learning experience and try again. If you want it bad enough, I know you will be successful. Good luck.

I am curently smack dab in the middle of BI. Waiting.
Krush, I am sure you did fine. I know the feeling you are talking about. Trust me I was there. And what K-Lo suggested above is great advice.
K-LO- Good luck and remember to share you experinces with r.a.l.'s and everything you have done to get into that seat.

Thank you both so much for your kind words and encouragement. That is great advice K-Lo, and I will definetely do that today while everything is still fresh in my mind. And you are right, if I didn't pass, then I will be naturally disappointed, but it won't be the end of the world. I can always do it again, and next time I will know what to expect.
With the exception of cotton mouth and my pants zipper breaking this afternon, I think the QAP went well. Time will tell. Good luck to you Krush and anyone else in the process.

retchp,
No sir, both panel members were men. Good one though.
I received a 90 on my QAP!!!
I know this question has probably been asked either here or on CHP.com but I am too excited to go look. The letter I received states that I will be notified in the coming months if I am to continue in the process. What is happening in that time frame as far as how people are chosen to continue? I know scores of 95-105 are selected first but what about the 90s? Is there any way to know if you will be picked up with a 90 short of a letter of invitation to continue or should I just assume I won't get picked up and reapply?
I apologize if this has already been answered. Thanks to all of you who offered advise.
Krush.............did you get your score yet? I hope you did well and I am anxious to know.
PS: MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Unless something has changed very recently that I'm not aware of, we're still giving Commitment to Hire letters to 90's and if that's the case, you should hear something soon.

Dude, good job. I hope they are taking 90's. Good luck the rest of the way. And if you do have to reapply, think about the fact that you only need another 5 points.

Funny you should say that..
Last year when I did take my QAP and got a 90, that was not good enough. This year when I got a 95, a 90 was ok. So, K-lo, Congrats!
Merry Christmas to everyone as well, from the lovely state of Oregon.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who drives home kicking myself for what I forgot to say! My 1st QAP was in 11/04, and it was worse than bad. For starters, I went in over-confident. And of course, we've all had a former job where the boss was the world's most unethical human, and when they wanted me to elaborate, I just thought about how at the orientation the week before, the officers REALLY stressed that you should never never ever no matter what say anything negative about a former boss at a QAP! Well, I came unglued, and after that, I don't think I could have told them my name if they'd asked!
This was not my 1st oral, but I had definitly decided that CHP is my thing, not a PD. I began applying to everywhere that was taking applications just to get the oral board experience (unfortunatly they see right through me when they ask why I want to work for their department). Something I learned is that you can NEVER tell how you did. The only one I actually failed is the one where I thought it went perfectly, plus there were only 12 of us taking the written, and the guy who interviewed before me was wearing Dockers & a nice polo shirt. Figured competition was slim! At another interview that I thought was pretty mediocre, it turns out I was I think 8th on the list out of 60-something. All those interviews paid off, but remember, the QAP is a whole different ballgame. I did what was already suggested...went to the car & wrote down every question after the interview. I had QAP #2 last summer, and it went wonderfully, and I scored my 95. I sent in the personal history of me, and a few weeks later my BI phoned to let me know that he's swamped right now, have faith, he'll get to me. THAT'S integrity! Every other dept. seems to keep you in a filing cabinet, noone else takes a moment to call. LOVE CHP! that was a few months ago, and I'm still waiting for my background interview, but he's already contacted some friends, so the ball is rolling. I think the most embarassing part of BI will be when he listens to the tape of the 1st QAP! Hopefully he'll do so when he's having a bad day & needs a good laugh, because he'll get it!
As for 90s...last year after crashing on the QAP, I spoke with the recruiter, and he said that they'd only taken 95s for the next step. Last summer at an orientation in San Jose the officer (now my BI) said they would only be taking 95s. I think it has something to do with the huge backfill of applicants from then the academy was closed. But I'm just an applicant. The best thing to do is call your recruiter, or perhaps your division office.

Hi K-Lo and everyone,
Yes, I just got my letter on Friday. I got a 95 on my QAP, and they also put on the letter that they gave me 10 points for Veteran's preferance, giving me a total score of 105.
I'm still in shock! I can't believe I did that well, I completely thought my interview was a complete train wreck.
And K-Lo, I'm not sure if they are or aren't accepting 90's, I'm definetely the wrong person to ask. But I sure hope they will, and I'm sure that you will be selected to continue! Good job! You have been working hard for this, and you deserve to continue.
Thank you all for your help, encouragement, and support. It is greatly appreciated.
And yes, I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas, and I am looking forward to celebrating the new year....safely and responsibly of course
