Hello everyone.

I would like to start off buy congratulating everyone for making it to this point in the hiring process. We all have a different reason for pursuing a career with the CHP but acknowledge the opportunity to be able to provide for our loved ones. I'm staying at the Best Western mentioned in the Cadet packet. It would be a great opportunity for us and our family's to get together and meet before we get up bright and early on April 2. If anyone wants to meet up just shoot me a pm and we can go from there. Only one month left so it is time to suck it up and prove to ourself that this is something that we want. See everyone there.

How come I don't see the Best Western Inn on my packet info. I am staying at the Harbor Inn. On the list they have Harbor Inn, Discovery Motor Inn, Travelers Inn, and Motel 6. By the way Harbor Inn is kind of expensive, $84.60 for one person with AAA card!!!!!

I believe the Harbor Inn is a Best Western.

I just reserved a room at the elegant Motel 6 baby!!! On my Garmin North America map it shows it as right next door to the Harbor Inn (Best Western). It was $41 booked online. Expedia has a special $65 rate at the Harbor Inn.

I don't think my wife will be coming since it is a 4.5 hour drive to Sac for us and she has to work April 2. But I'm down to meet my fellow future inmates, I mean Cadets.

Looks like there over 20 people on these forums who've said their CTC I-07 bound! Good luck to those still waiting, be patient.

Also I was just wasting time on Google Earth, it looks like there's a Panda Express, Jack in the Box, and Starbucks across the street from the academy grounds.....

Beaver,

You do have too much time on your hands if you started recognizing restaurants from goggle earth. I hope to see everyone there before we get sentenced.

There is an Extended Stay on Stillwater, within walking distance to the Academy. It's also about a 2 minute walk to Starbucks, Panda Express, Jack-in-the-Box, and a couple of other eateries.
It's a bit pricey, about 85 bucks a night on Priceline, but you'll sleep better knowing that the local night crawlers don't cruise the parking lot nightly and most of the guests don't rent on a weekly basis. I personally would spend the few extra bucks to avoid the Harbor Inn and the other establishments near I-80 and Harbor Blvd.
Maybe one of you enthusiastic soon to be cadets can give them a call and see how many rooms are needed to qualify for a group rate.
Hypothetical question: If technically you are going to be a State employee on April 2, do you qualify for a State rate if you are technically spending the morning of April 2nd in a hotel begining at midnight?
I wouldn't test that theory if I were you.

Come on Snowdog! You know not one of these guys will get a wink of sleep, anticipating their entry into the "Hallowed Walls of the Academy!"

And, to get the State rate, don't you have to show your State ID when you check in to you hotel? Don't get these guys in trouble before the report to the Academy! The hotel staff's around the Academy have probably been instructed to pull blue cards!

If that is the case...the poor cadets might lose their first month's worth of Wednesday night leaves before they even step foot on the grounds.....poor poor souls.....Good luck guys!!!!

They better not fall asleep if they are staying at the Harbor Inn. Since they are going to be awake, they should keep an eye on their car in the parking lot. Nothing worst than showing up for pick-up day with no change of clothes for the next week. But thats one less bag to carry. Maybe they can all take turns standing guard in the parking lot.

Well put! If only we were born smart! Have you ever contemplated (hey! Road dogs have lots of time to contemplate the things unsaid!) the similarities between infancy and old age? When your born, you don't know much, you can talk, walk or feed yourself. You also have to wear a diaper and have someone change you. When you get old....... Hope that doesn't depress you old guys that are getting set to retire with your 90%

Preparing daily... Study what? I'm currently studying all the different pieces of literature the CHP has sent me. Anything special I should work on?

I look forward to meeting everyone at the academy...it will be obvious which one I am by my name...unfortunately!

My last night of freedom was spent at the Hilton Garden Inn Natomas off of I-5 (between Garden Hwy [which you'll come to know] and W El Camino). It's just south of I-80 and about 15 minutes tops to the Academy. No nightcrawlers but I'll never forget the jerk in the room above me who kept stomping across the floor at 2 AM. Oh well. It wasn't like I was going to sleep much that night anyway. Just ask for the top floor. Also they have a nice plate of cookies at the front desk each night. Those of you who haven't exactly gotten in shape might want to indulge one last time. $107.00 for AAA on April 1.

Hang on to your hats and glasses noobs. You're going on a wild and crazy ride.

At the risk of giving away the experience I'll tell you what a chippie told me before I went in. Fly low under the radar. If at this time in October they still don't know who you are at the Staff Office, you're doing it right.

Last. Avoid going to an eatery right across from the Academy. Please. Common sense kids.

Dead Bodies Found in Holtel Room

The bodies of a couple were found dead inside a room at the Best Western Harbor Inn and Suites in West Sacramento yesterday afternoon.
By KFBK News Team
A housekeeper made the discovery after the couple failed to check out of the second-floor room. Both the victims were believed to be in their 50's. Police said there was no visible signs of trauma on the bodies but a large amount of perscription drugs was found nearby. Officials are still looking into an exact cause of death.

Well I had a reservation there, not anymore! Time too look for something else in a better area. I don't need to wake up monday morning with my car stolen or have the hotel taped off as a crime scene and can't leave cause some idiot shot himself either with a gun or some drugs. And do you think that the drill instructors would believe that story. Hell NO!

I was just going to tuff it out but decided that the dead bodies were just a little over the top. Going to stay at the extended inn recommended by snow dog.

This is lovely...time to look for another place to stay I guess. So do you get charged for canceling a reservation? Where should I stay instead of that dreaded street on southwest Sac?

Hey, suddenly my previous post makes sense. Is this the time to say "I told you so". But look on the bright side, I bet you can get the room for half price. But I would recommend bringing your own sheets and towels.

Just blow your money and pay for a fancy place on your last night of freedom.

Hyatt is $129ish and is in downtown sac

I switched my reservation from Motel 6 to the Extended Stay America across the street from the Academy. I think I'm going to split the cost with another cadet and get a room with two beds ($94). That way even if my car gets stolen I can just walk across the street to the academy. And it probably would with my luck. My toyota truck was stolen on my honeymoon while we were shopping at Ontario Mills. It had the 'Just Married' writing all over it and they still nabbed it!

I am also staying at the Extended Inn, across from the academy. After hearing all those stories about the Harbor Inn, I had to switch.

I've grown up in the Sacramento area and I'll help my fellow cadets out by suggesting some places to stay other than West Sacramento that are relativley close.

-Natomas: 5 min from the Reed ave. exit, not as much crime as West Sac.

-Downtown Sac: 10-15 min drive to Reed Ave, alot of decent to nice places to stay. Most offer secured parking garages.

-Davis: About a 15-20 min drive to Reed Ave, nice college town, not a lot of crime. You'll be going the opposite way of traffic on I-80 so the drive won't be as bad. Good if you're comming from the bay area.

I'd avoid getting a room in the Arden, Rancho Cordova, Folsom, North Sac, and Fair Oaks areas. You'll definatley get stuck in traffic heading to West Sac. Good luck!

I'm coming from east of Folsom, so I'm not taking any chances. I will be leaving extra early to give me enough time to be at the Academy before daybreak. I want to make sure I'm there when they open the gates.

I don't want to be late :closed: .

Just like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory eh? Although I don't think we'll be greeted by Willy Wonka nor in the style of Wonka. I'm expecting somethine more like the movie Anapolis.
