I've looked over the Instructions to Prospective Cadets Packet and the running shoes section doesn't say anything about color. However, my recruiter used to work PT Staff at the academy and mentioned not to have any flashy colors on the running shoes that would draw attention. Do you who have been or are at the academy think these would work? These are what I've been running triathlons and marathons in and would like to keep using...

Beaver,
Great question! I've been running in this shoe also and love it. To add to your question. The cadet packet says to bring a court shoe and a running shoe. I just don't see the pt staff letting us go change our shoes to go running in. And I know that this shoe would mark up the gym. So any info would be great.

Actually they do. You bring your running shoes into the gym with you while your wearing your court shoes, then you switch to go running outside.

When I went through the academy I wore the Asics GT-2110's and the Gel Kayano XII's. Don't worry too much about the look of your running shoes, just don't have flourescent green/pink shoes. One thing to remember is that running shoes do wear out, so switch to a new pair about halfway through to help keep your joints and shins in better shape.

I actually just got back from buying two pairs of the same running shoe (pictured above) and my leather boots (Rocky 1960s). They were the 2110 which are no longer being made and I got them for $59 instead of $89, so I bought two pairs.

I was sad to see the 2110 go out, I love my pair and bought 2 pairs last time as well. IMO, Asics are the best running shoe out there. Check out http://www.roadrunnersports.com for more great deals on shoes, they have a great return policy and always good deals.

I too just bought a couple of more pairs. I found that this store had a good selection of sizes considering the shoe is on closeout. I think we will be able to identify all the website members when we get to the academy because we will all have the same stuff.

These are the gym shoes that I'm going with. They are a pair of mens volleyball shoes. I wore a similar pair when I played squash. The sole is great for indoors. I just ordered a pair from The Sports Authority. http://tsa.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/p2494366reg.jpg (http://javascript:showEnhanced();)http://www.sportsauthority.com/

Like gettinready said, wear whatever you want. Don't stress about the little things like color and style. Wear what is comfortable, tried and true. If you have been running like you should have been prior to going to academy, you should already have shoes that are broken in. If you are good at PT, then the staff will leave you alone. If not, then stand by. The color of your shoes will be the last thing on your mind then.

Thats funny you mention that, when we would be on that 1 millionth nose in the ring, I didn't care about really anything, much less what color my shoes were.
Those men's volleyball asics are just like what I had, the gum sole is perfect!(read: worth the extra money so you don't strain your groin or other muscles in your leg and then are pissed on your weekend off)

I have never owned a pair of "gym/court" shoes other than basketball shoes, so thanks for the heads up on these shoes. They look like a simple and yet very comfortable shoe. Score another for Asics for knowing how to make a great shoe.
