"...A man setting fires close to large fuel tanks near the south end of the Strip was shot and wounded by police Friday after officers were summoned to the scene, authorities said..."

"...Late Friday, Sheriff Doug Gillespie said the suspect was a Las Vegas police recruit who was enrolled in the academy..."

You know what? I was going to just chuckle and ignore this, but it is actually something I have said for about thirty years and that is this:

Ultimately society will get the type of president, cop, astronaut, police recruit, senator and so forth that it DESERVES!!!

America is going down the tubes because of the MTV generation and the permissiveness that is rampant in today's society.

That said, we have a lot of good people on this board and some great potential officers, but there is a real tendency toward hiring to the lowest common denominator all across the land.

Hillary Clinton comes to mind as do the Dixie Chicks.

Sorry. . .just an old guy raving, fire away.

you know, my husband had a roommate at the academy who only lasted a week or two. my husband said his first thought, upon meeting the guy, was, "how did HE get through?!" he had a military psych discharge that was something along the lines of him not wanting to be separated from his girlfriend? and yet, there he was in lovely west sac. all kinds, i guess... :noidea:

I love ya, man! :) Couldn't have said it better myself.

In the not-too-distant future, the flaming left will get the anarchist, anything-goes, do-whatever-you-want society they're pushing for (we're about 75% of the way there now)......and shortly thereafter, they'll discover that it's not the glorious Utopia they thought it would be.

I doubt it. They pretty much already have all of that with San Francisco, and as far as I can tell, they love it.

Yeah, but they still haven't totally legalized all drugs and completely eliminated the police - which would be two major goals of the liberal left.

My EXACT thoughts!....Great minds...right?!

The scary part of that statement?...If we continue as we are, the Dixie Chicks will be the ones playing at Hillary's Inauguration...

My gawd - the "Ditzy Twits" and Billary - throw Algore (aka "the inventor of the Internet") in there as the keynote speaker and you've got a guaranteed recipe for projectile vomiting!!!

Now I know I'm going to love this job...

btw...that is just pure crap about the dixie chicks. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the cover of the LA Times on Monday...who friggin picks the Grammys? The Dixie Chicks have been boycotted at concerts and had to cancel tour dates. Radio stations across the country have ceased playing their music. A huge demographic in the US that makes up country music fans HATES them! I turned on a country station Monday morning and just listened to them laugh at how that group won all those awards. Probably just another shock and aww attempt from Hollywood. I feel sorry for the other awardees who's award was cheapened by the Dixie Chicks...so much for the Grammys.

They've been completely shut out of the country music scene - nary a mention of them at any of the country music awards shows unless it's in a derisive way  (I think it was Reba who made a joking comment about them during the last CMA show.) I guess the Grammys have "adopted" them and given them some love since they've alienated the vast majority of their former fans. The industry people surrounding the Grammys are much more liberal than the country music industry, so the 'Twits' fit in perfectly there....they're in good company with the gangsta rappers and other such types.

The country music stations down here have completely boycotted them - no play whatsoever. I switched over to Sirius satellite radio and was disappointed to discover that their country stations DO play them - I just keep the remote handy so I can switch stations immediately whenever they come on.

This kind of stuff isn't new....I could give you a laundry list of "cops that went bad". Yes..it is unfortunate....I just don't think its a result of the "liberals" of the society.

I actually wouldn't mind if Hillary was president. I think she would do a great job, as would many others. I mean come on, Bush some how made it into office ( ), she couldn't do any worse.

wait till we get those cadets that get in for barely making 70.....they have lowered the required score to 70.

Lowering the required score to enter backgrounds, not the Academy. Backgrounds, Medical, and Psych all have the same minimum standards as always. By taking lower scores we are giving those who may not interview as well as others or have more "baggage" an opportunity to move into backgrounds. We are not lowering our hiring standards.

(Boy did we get off-topic with this!)

I believe the Dixie Chicks just basically "opened mouth and insterted foot". But, its all a popularity contest along with publicity. As for the award shows, they mean nothing to me. All the time I see people that should have won and did not. Me personally, I like some of their songs, but for the most part Im with mac, I just hit the next preset station button.
