A couple from the Bakersfield area with eight children went to their family doctor to discuss permanent birth control measures. When the doctor inquired why they wanted to do so, the couple answered that they had recently heard that every ninth child born in the United States is of Hispanic origin. They felt that since they already had eight kids and did not speak Spanish, they did not want to chance having a ninth child.
