Good luck to him. There is a precedent in the department wherein an officer lost both legs and continued through his career - retiring as a Captain. His name was Bob Caldwell. A gentleman and highly personable.

California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Remmel has come a long way since Jan. 10, 2006 ? the day he was hit by a pickup truck and lost lower portions of both legs.
Read Up Here--I think this is so awesome.

I met Captain Caldwell, and was very impressed when I heard his story. It takes a lot of grit and determination to come back from something like that.
Tip o' the hat to Officer Remmel also - doing what he's doing definitely isn't easy.

If he can't pass the test he could keep working in the office, right? I know that's not what he want's to do but at least he would still be involved in the department which he clearly has a passion for.

Does anyone know why lawmakers limited the "commitments" to before 1984? I wonder why the change? I mean if an officer has years on the job, and he can be of some use to the department, and has a passion for the work, can't they make some sort of concessions to work him into a spot? It has been my experience that things are not always black-and-white, there are always exceptions to anything.
