SB 405

INDUSTRY, December 30, 2006 - A California Highway Patrol officer was shot on a freeway offramp in the City of Industry overnight, and a manhunt for two suspects was under way Saturday morning, authorities said.
The wounded officer was taken to a hospital where he was reported to have stable vital signs, CHP Officer Rick Quintero said. No hospital condition was available.
About 3:45 a.m., a chase started when the officer who was shot and his partner tried to stop a sports utility vehicle on the northbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway near Whittier Boulevard, he said.

The suspect vehicle exited at Peck Road and crashed on the ramp, Quintero said, adding that two men ran from the wreckage.

During a foot chase, at least one of the suspects opened fire on the officers, wounding one of them, Quintero said. It was unclear if the officers fired their weapons

Wow....this is the fourth or fifth law enforcement officer that has been shot in the past few of weeks. All on vehicle stops. Nothing is routine.

Here is some more information on this story that I found;

(AP) INDUSTRY, Calif. A California Highway Patrol officer was shot and
wounded early Saturday following a car chase in the City of Industry
-- and two people were arrested hours later.

The officer, whose name was not immediately released, tried to stop a
sport utility vehicle without license plates speeding on the 605
Freeway about 4 a.m.

A chase ended a mile or two later when the SUV crashed on the Peck
Road offramp and the driver and passenger got out.

Shots were exchanged and the officer was shot in the lower torso. He
was listed in stable condition at a hospital.

A police dog searched the area and eventually the suspects were found.

Twenty-one-year-old Armando Saucillo of Bell Gardens, and an unnamed
juvenile were booked for investigation of attempted murder.
