I have posted the officer's name in the officer only area. He was a commercial officer assigned to Valley Division. He had 13 years on and was a #13xxx badge number.

Few details have been released yet. I am on RDOs so I don't know if there is an MIS on the incident yet.

I watched the video links but didn't hear anything about how this happened. Did this incident start as a basic traffic stop?

Yes. It was a traffic stop in Yolo County for an unknown violation. The initial information was that the officer walked up to the vehicle and greeted the driver and was then shot.

As a result of the death of an Officer yesterday how does it effect the training of the current class? By that I mean do the instructors talk about the incident as a reminder of just how quick something can turn sideways? Or is it not mentioned so it doesn't become a distraction of the cadets training? I mean no disrespect by the word "distraction" I'm just trying to picture the classroom environment when something tragic like this happens and cadets are supposed to stay focused on learning.

It becomes part of the training enviroment. It effects everyone there, including the cadets. It will be talked about, dealt with and harped on....Officer Safety. For some cadets this will be a wake up call as to what line of work they are nowgoing into for others it will be an affirmation of the job field they chose. The instructors will use this as an example and believe me ...... it will stay in their heads for their careers.

Academy life will go on as "normal", learning will not change. A day or so will pass with room for mourning and then back to 100%. The day we place his name on the fountain will be another hit by a one ton brick, especially for those there.

RIP Brother

training continued after the incident. We had the leadership come and we talked about the details that were available and revisited the risk of being in law enforcement. You can't hide from the truth that we WILL confront bad people out there. The emphasis at the academy is to train to a level where you can avoid this to the max extent possible. BUT, if it is your time and the Lord calls your name, then it doesn't matter when, what or why. Enjoy every day, smell the roses, make the most of every opportunity, tell those you you love "I love you" and get rid of the skeletons you are too afraid to confront. This is a reminder to have ALL of you affairs in order, wills, powers of attorney, paper work, bills, make sure everything is right with your family and your conscience...kiss the wife and kids each day and live a clean life so you don't have any trash that is unresolved.

A man suspected of killing a California Highway Patrol officer was
arrested early Friday in Rocklin.

Officer Andy Stevens was gunned down Thursday afternoon during a
traffic stop on County Road 96 just north of Highway 16 near Woodland
in Yolo County.

An intense manhunt followed with dozens of law enforcement officers
from several counties working through the night to locate the
suspected shooter.

A break came when the suspect's car was spotted in the parking lot of
a hotel in Rocklin in Placer County.

Officers surrounded the hotel and took the man into custody about 3
a.m. Friday. A woman was also arrested, but it's unclear what her
connection is to the suspect.

Authorties have not released the identity of the man or the woman and
said the investigation in the officer's death is ongoing.

Law enforcement officials are expected to release more details later
Friday morning.

Stevens, 37, was a 13-year veteran of the CHP. He was married and had
no children.

I was in the academy when Sgt. Wagers lost his life in Yolo Co. and the entire Jr. and Sr. class went to the funeral. I would imagine this class will do the same being his death was so close to the academy...

My condolences to this individuals family. From what I understand the majority of his family is in California. 13 years served dispensing justice. It seems a harsh way to go, but I guess God needed some help keeping things in order in heaven. Once again my condolences....
