For some years now I've noticed that the 14 freeway has hours that you can ride in the carpool lane as a single body driver in the car. On the weekends, anyone can ride in the carpool.
My question is this...seeing how the carpool lane is open for anyone during certain hours and on weekends, can I be ticketed for crossing the double yellow lines?

While I'm not an officer, I'm gonna say you can be ticketed for crossing a double yellow line. That's one thing you learn in Driver's Ed. I could look in my Penal Code book for the section but why not have someone else give you that info that might have it memorized already.

Yes, you can be ticketed. The presence of double-double yellow lines has nothing to do with the carpool lane itself. You should think of double-double yellow lines as a concrete barrier. In the HOV case, it would fall under section 21655.8 of the vehicle code.

Yes, think of it as an impervious wall that you cannot pass thru, that is however if you are allready in the carpool lane and there is an emergency vehicle with lights and siren behind you. Then and probably only then will you be allowed to pass thru the magical double yellow lines, of course, pulling over to the right and as soon as it is possibly safe. Now there is nograce period for you to cross back over the double yellows to get back to the carpool lane. You have to wait for the entry portion to re-enter.
