Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone has a family member in the new class that just started. My husband started this week.
Just wanted to see if anyone wanted to chat regarding the first week and see how their love one is doing. My husband said this is the hardest thing he has ever done, and it's only the first week. I keep encouraging him to go on and that he can do this.
Anyone from down South??
Thanks
Katy

Just tell him that it gets better. The first week is by far the most stressfull (in the sense that he is feeling). If he hangs in there, he will almost begin to enjoy it:biggrin: . Well maybe not enjoy it, but be able to get through it without too many problems.
The only easy day was yesterday!
Seriously though....the Academy doesn't get any easier as it progresses, but the Cadets get "harder". There's an acclimation period where you have to adapt to the rigors of Academy life. Once you've done that, if definitely gets better. Not easier, but better.

I think what Mac is saying the fact that yesterday is now over it can be called "easy"

Hey family members..
I am currently in class IV-06. It is tough but so rewarding. Just let your loved ones know that the training officers (similar to drill sergeants) yell because they are supposed to. Don't take it personal. If they need help with anything, ASK FOR HELP. we are all their to help each other. We are not competitors, we are teammates.
Of every person that quits, there are 20 that don't. ASK FOR HELP, ASK FOR HELP, ASK FOR HELP.
I f they don't ask for help and think they can sneak through, they are hurting themselves and their teammates. If the put their pride our embarrasment aside and ask for help, we will be their for each other.
If they can't count on their roommates, ask their quad mates, or squad mates, or their seniors
Be supportive for them in everyway and let them know that their classmates are their to support them too
my wife is here "down south", let me know if you need to talk, I'll see if she would like to chat with you (she may be shy)

Well said Mac! BTW I love the Avatar....
Hulla Hoe I say.... They are trying to weed out the bad and make something of the good ones that stick it out! Academy life is what it is. It is tough mentaly and physically, but all worht in the end!!!! The best career ever! Once he and his fellow cadets learn each others names, strengths, weaknesses they can come togeher and make LIFE at the Academy, (not to be confused with the academy itself) easier or shall I say more manageable!!!!
Good Luck....

One of the first and most important concepts to grasp at the Academy is TEAMWORK. Law enforcement isn't like the private sector, where you try to make yourself look better than your co-worker because you both might be competing for that next promotion - we all work together as a team to accomplish our goals. Get used to it and start living it NOW. If your roommate starts to walk out of the room and his uniform is screwed-up, un-fornicate him. If you see one of your classmates is about to do something stupid, stop them. You'll learn quickly that EVERYBODY pays for one person's mistake.....you succeed or fail as a TEAM, not as individuals. That concept will be with you from the day you walk into the Academy until the day you retire from the job - the quicker you assimilate it and start living it, the smoother things will go. Loners who are on their own program and can't play nice with others will have a hard, lonely time of it - both in the Academy and out in the field.

MISS K, My husband is in CTC IV 06. That first week was hard for him as well as myself! When you don't know what is happening and if everything is ok, it is nerve racking. Hopefully your huband is doing well. I keep telling my Husband that, "2 weeks down just keep the count down going and we will see you graduate on June 15"
Well hope things are going well for you and your husband.
