My BF told me last night that one of his instructors told the class yesterday that one of the new officers (CTC II-06) was involved in a shooting this week - first week out on the job - but that he had no details on the incident yet. Anyone have any details on this and if the officer is ok?

Never mind. I found the article on it. Thankfully both officers are ok. I bet this was an eye opener for the new officer....

Suspect Arrested After Shooting at CHP

A 21-year-old Lake View Terrace man was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of attempted murder after reportedly shooting several rounds at California Highway Patrol officers and other motorists following a traffic stop on Highway 14, near Soledad Canyon Road.
At 7:14 p.m., a CHP officer and trainee made a routine traffic stop for a Toyota Sienna speeding on southbound Highway 14 near the Soledad Canyon Road off-ramp, CHP spokesman John Lutz said.
As one of the officers approached the passenger side window of the car, Charles Garibay reportedly fired several rounds at the officer from a semi-automatic gun, Lutz said.
The approaching officer immediately sought cover as his partner shot back at the vehicle, said Lutz, who did not know whether the officer who returned fire was the area officer or the trainee.
After the officer returned gunfire, Lutz said Garibay drove off heading southbound on Highway 14 and the CHP officers were quick to pursue, while other CHP units began responding to the call.
The officers discovered Garibay's van abandoned, tipped on its side after crashing on the Soledad Canyon off-ramp. Garibay had fled on foot, Lutz said.
As the officers approached the scene, they reportedly heard gunfire from the southeast direction near the northbound Highway 14 Soledad Canyon Road off-ramp.
Garibay had reportedly attempted to carjack two cars from motorists exiting the freeway.
Those motorists were able to speed away. However, Garibay reportedly fired several rounds at one of them, Lutz said. One of the unidentified motorists suffered minor injuries to his hand and was sent to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
After shooting at the drivers, Garibay reportedly discarded his gun, ran on foot up the northbound Soledad Canyon Road on-ramp and was followed by CHP officers and responding sheriff's deputies.
The officers found Garibay walking along the center divider portion of the freeway along the northbound Highway 14 lanes and arrested him at the scene without any further incident, Lutz said.
Garibay was booked at 11:40 p.m. at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station and is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
A CHP canine unit eventually discovered a gun, which investigators believe is the one Garibay used. CHP Southern Division, Investigative Services is handling both the shooting and criminal investigation.

If I see another "routine stop" phrase used, I'm going to kill that reporter.

It was not a member of 2-06. It was an officer on last phase from 1-06.

What a way to have "break-in".
What a way to have "break-in".
There have been Officers killed during break-in (Terry Autrey in ELA comes to mind immediately - hit by an inattentive motorist while getting back in the car to clear a collision scene - I believe he was still in first phase). That's why you'll see occasional reminders here that you're never "safe". You're not "safe" when you graduate the Academy; you're not "safe" when you finish break-in; you're not "safe" when you successfully complete your one year of probation. You're never "safe" on this job until you hang up your uniform at the end of your last shift and walk out the back door as a retiree.
