Howdy everyone.

I am about to graduate from college and am very interested in being a CHP Officer. I had a couple questions, if you all don't mind. First off, how difficult is it to get into specialized units, such as aviation (after your first year duty)? Second, is it possible for a non-explorer to go for a ride-along with an Officer?

Last question- I have asthma. But I have it under control, and can easily run 2-3 miles, and pass all the CHP fitness tests. Would that disqualify me? Is there some Academy policy on asthma? My apologies for the long message.--- Cameron

PS- Thanks to Darth Choke for referring me to this website. I've been browsing it for over an hour- great topics and discussions.

No prob. Just trying to get everyone on "the same page"

Aviation - difficult, long waiting list. You'll want to have a lot of flying time under your belt to give you a good chance

Most areas will allow someone interested in the job to get a ride-along.

Asthma would not get you disqualified.

The fitness test to get you in the academy are NOTHING compared to the a$$ kicking you get at the academy though. 3 miles on its own is not hard. 3 miles (or 4 or 5) is after an academy PT floor session ;)
