Modified Import cars

Is the CHP cracking down on modified import vehicles? In the past year, I have seen less rice-rockets on the freeways, but a lot more muscle cars. I know certain muscle cars are smog exempt, but they are loud. Are most CHP officers train to pull over illegally modified vehicles?

The answer to your question is.....sort of. Several years ago we had training, given by San Diego PD (I think), that was really good. It was specifically aimed towards illegally modified vehicles. That training wasn't given to ALL personnel. But the information for taking enforcement action is available to all Officers.

While there is some very specialized training (such as the SDPD training Tom referred to) that not everybody has gotten, pretty much every officer knows the most common violations for "ricers". There are a lot of cheat sheets floating around that have the most common violations listed for easy reference.
