During a recent ride along with a Modesto officer, I was told that they are not currently teaching how to speak Spanish at the academy because of the larger class sizes they now have. I am looking for some verification on the Spanish class, on if it is being taught or not. If they are teaching the class, would it be wise to take a Spanish class at a local college to prepare myself for the academy, or is the class taught at the academy so specific and confined that the college class would be useless?

I can only confirm that they are teaching the Spanish class at the academy. However, I do not know if a college course would be helpful or not so I will leave that up to one of the officers who have been through the academy to answer.

Well, they did to CTC II-06, because I overheard a lot of practicing, and one of my former classmates from CTC III-06 mentioned that they were about to start in an email a few weeks ago. Smile...he officer who teaches Spanish is one of those instructors who's class you look forward to. GREAT guy! (and I'm not being sarcastic as many academy posts can be. A gifted teacher!)
