I heard on the news starting in January the Highway Patrol will start replacing the Crown Vic with the Dodge Charger. The Crown Vic seems like a car that has performed well but I'd like to hear anyone's thoughts on the change, are you looking forward to it?

COOL!!! If it's true and we're definitely getting them then I'm stoked. I haven't read any MIS traffic or heard any scuttle butt but I'm in the middle of nowhere. The only bummer is I just took delivery on an 05' Crown Vic. so I guess I'd better get busy driving to run it out. Anyway, I thought we were locked into the Crown Vic. contract until 2007, though I could be wrong, and so am surprised to hear this. If it's a true police interceptor then we'll finally have something with muscle again. Not that I care much, I wonder how it's going to affect the budget with gas prices (using gas is part of the job).

I was at the Sacramento Auto Show this weekend working for my current company and the P/A officers from the North Sac office were there with the new Dodge Durango. According to the officer working the booth, it is the only one in the state right now, and he actually picked it up from the motor pool on Fri to get it to the show.
Looked good! Too bad I never had a chance to take a picture of it

He must have meant it was the only black and white version of the Durango. My Area commander has a Durango for his state ride. I'd heard they were going to replace the Expeditions with Durangos which means we're slowly going back to Dodges. As long as Dodge doesn't blind-side us with another Diplomat-esque machine I'll be stoked to drive a magnum. The guy who sold the state the Diplomat must have been someone we'd cited several times and he was exacting some revenge (and laughing his ass off).

My mistake. You are correct. Black and white with light bar/winch etc.
And of course the area b/w Camaro was there.

I'll believe it when I see one at the local office. Rumor control gets out of hand every time we evaluate a new vehicle. I'm sure Dodge doesn't mind the scuttlebutt reporting we've chosen their vehicle. When we tested the Volvos, everyone said we were getting those. Same with the Impalas... and Tahoes... I admit that the Charger is probably the best-equipped to get us away from the CV.
...Although, let me add that if we get the Chargers, I would not be one bit surprised if we got the V6. A few years ago, Ford offered the CVPI with the Marauder motor as an option -- we didn't get it.
