Get there PLENTY early. Drive over to entrance so you know where to go (don't go in though). Then, go hang out a Jack-in-the-Box on the Academy side or McDonald's on the other side of the fwy. There will be an abundance of shaved headed, suit wearing, wide-eyed, nervous customers you can talk to. This helped to calm my nerves a bit and also enabled me to blend in a bit because we all left together - and arrived together. Better than walking across the parking lot at the academy alone.

When you think about it meeting other cadets before reporting is the first step towards meeting your new classmates. I'd bet some long lasting friendships are started from that first "hello" Now, when someone is released from the academy (for whatever reason) are the other cadets told about it,or do you just happen to notice that a certain person is no longer in the class and the grapevine takes over? I know in college some of the professores seemed to get some kind of enjoyment announcing to the entire class about a student not making the cut. Does the same apply to cadets who wash out?

Pretty much everything is spread through the grapevine. Any announcement from the staff would probably be passed through the Company Commander(s). Word spreads quickly on its own, though.
