The next academy is schedule for March 6. I just missed the 14th academy. My BI said that I should get confirmation information about a month before the academy.
Thanks for that info, I know schedules are always subject to change but I do have a question that I hope some veterans or anyone with info could answer. I am in the Navy and scheduled to be discharged on March 24, 2006. I go on terminal leave 1 month prior on Feb.24 and am free to start working wherever I please. If this academy date stays this way, and I finish all the hiring process by that point, then how does the CHP feel about allowing you to enter the academy although I technically would not have my DD214 in hand but could get it eventually mailed to me while still at the academy? I ask this only becase I would greatly like to roll from one career into starting another without skipping a beat and not have to sit around for 3-4 months because I missed the bus by 3 weeks or so... I plan on asking my BI this upon our initial interview but any added info from someone that might know would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ray
Ray,
Sounds like your in backgrounds waiting to be contacted for your initial interview... The DD214 is not going to be as much of an issue of just making it through backgrounds/medical/psych in time. Depending on military records, your age, etc., a background can take a few months. To make the March class, you'd have to be cleared from backgrounds no later than mid February. While this is certainly possible, it is easy for things to hold up a case. Did I mention military records? ;) Since you are just getting discharged, it may be easier for your BI to his his/her hands on your file.
Your right DW, I am waiting for my initial interview and I know it can be a while beacuse I just turned in my PHS on 10/26. That's great to know that the CHP could still possibly allow me to attend the academy without my DD214 but like you said, thats "if" I can finish up the process by then. I hope that my B.I can take my discharge date into consideration when he is conducting the background so I can hopefully make that March class. Thanks for the info. Ray

Ray1, don't forget to call every reference or prior employer to give them the heads up about being contacted by the BI. And urge them to get any written statement mailed back to the BI as quickly as possible. If you're in the military right now you don't need to worry about a DD214. Talk to your commanding officer and let him or her know what's going on. My commander treated my BI to lunch in the wardroom. I was in the Academy within 6 months, start to finish. All that matters to the BI is what type of discharge is anticipated and your immediate supervisor can tell him or her. Obviously you can't obtain a DD214 until you separate. My first month in the Academy I was on terminal leave (two paychecks, sweet!) and so I didn't receive my discharge papers until well into the Academy.
Hey Mentor, thats exactly the info I hoped to hear as well. I will make sure to brief my C.O on my current process so he can be prepared to speak about me since he doesn't know me yet. That is a good thing though because this current C.O feels that if he knows a name then it is probably for the wrong reasons.(Captain's Mast) But anyhow, I am sure he will have only great things to say since I have never been in trouble since I have been in the Navy. Thanks for that reply Mentor and I know its all just a matter of time. Ray
