Well for those who recently tested in Valley, I'm curious who is going to be there? I just received my written test results today and I passed. It gave me a score of 63.3 which means nothing to me. What matters is I passed!! Anyhow I've now been officially invited to the PAT on 10/21. Others who recently tested at ARC should be receiving their results shortly. Looking forward to perhaps meeting a forum member or two while I'm there. I'm still a little worried about my vision, but if I get DQ'd on my vision or 500 yard run, then I'll just have to work on things for the next few testing cycles. I'm just glad I passed the written the first time through. I felt like I had passed, but I was not 100% sure.

I'm pretty sure that if you pass everything else at the PAT but the vision, you have an opportunity to get it corrected before your medical exam, provided you make it that far- That's what happened my first time through- of course on the second time we did the 500 run after the vision test and I passed just fine....wierd. Like everyone else on here will say, if you haven't been running, get on it. For the 500, do your best, and if the time limit is coming quick run that last straightaway like your future career depended on it.

I just got home from the Valley Division PAT held at the CHP Academy. I passed! I also got to meet Snowdog from the forum which was a pleasure. It was nice finally putting a face to a name.

I was really worried about the vision test, but I squeeked by. I was given the #1 rank for worst side step, but I passed and it was hard not to laugh. LOL. It was a real treat being at the Academy today and I consider myself fortunate being able to test at the place where it all happens. Let's just say the Staff Officers were there to give us a 'warm welcome'. I got a little personal attention right off the bat by two Staff Officers, but it was for something very minor that I fixed on the spot. You think in your head "okay if I get yelled at, I answer the Officer "SIR, YES, SIR". Well when it happens the first time, I don't know what I said but it was not SIR, YES, SIR! I did sound off which was good, but let's just say I need a little practice there. Once that happened, and after the shaking stopped (yeah I was shaking), I flew below the radar for the rest of the testing process. If I have to do it again, I certainly learned the do's and don'ts today. Had I known just a couple of little tidbits of information, I would not have received personal attention. However, it's character building and something you can really only experience first hand. I'm glad I got my first one out of the way.

To all who were there and passed, CONGRATS!! I'm pumped, next step, psych written tomorrow. QAP on Monday! Everyone I met seemed to be good people and we all tried to encourage one another in our group. Good times and even better when you get to move on with the process. The one thing that did surprise me was how many people were late. Don't EVER, EVER be late for any thing CHP process related. I was there close to 45 minutes early just to be on the safe side.

Congrats, Unixadm - best of luck throught the rest of the process.

Take a good look at those people - because you'll probably never see them in a Cadet uniform. Those are the unwashed slackers who treat the CHP application process no differently than if they were applying for a job in a fast food joint. Motivation factor next to zero - they'd rather be at home playing Nintendo (and that's probably why they were late in the first place!) As long as I live, I'll never forget the redheaded guy who showed up for our QAPs in jeans, with a full beard! Hmmm.....last time I ever saw him......

ROFL!!! Nah, I'm pretty sure it wasn't the same guy - this one was a little stubby dude. Looked like me might've had 6-pack abs, but they were hidden underneath the keg!

Congrats on passing the PAT. I think that I was the worst at side stepping at the PAT I attended. I kept crossing my legs and leaping. For some reason I couldn't stop doing it, but I barely passed even though the times I crossed my legs didn't count. I am really athletic but I guess it was my nerves kicking in.

Good luck with the written pysch. It's long but the time will pass quickly. As for the QAP, I am still waiting for my results. I am excited yet nervous. I had my QAP on October 4th so they should be hear at the beginning of next week.

Thanks guys.

Well I had my QAP today. I think I could have done better. It was my first job interview in 10 years and I was very nervous. I looked good with a nice suit. However I had to clarify some of my answers a couple of times. I did not delay responses and I did not studder, but being nervous did not help. I'm a great communicator and a decent leader and I don't think I conveyed that as well as I could have. I certainly could have done worse, but I know I could have done better. Being my first time applying to any LE agency, the process has been demanding and difficult from typical private sector hiring standards. All this old guy can do is keep his fingers crossed and hope for the best. I'm just glad it's over and I can relax just a little bit.

Just when I thought people would not miss the 'boat' so to say, a applicant showed up for an interview he missed earlier in the day and wanted to talk to someone about it. Listening to that conversation in the lobby made me even MORE nervous. I could have done without that because the words "Disqualfiied" kept coming up. That was like 5 minutes before I got called into my interview and just didn't help. Ugh! Late to PAT, Late to Psych Written, non-notorized forms, late to your QAP. Some of these applicants are not doing too well.

Unixadm - relax....99.9% of applicants are nervous during their QAP, so you're not showing them anything they haven't already seen many times. Let us know how you did when you get your results!

You're already seeing what I talked about in another thread - applicants who treat this like they're applying for a job at McDonalds or something. This is a lot more than a job - it's a career, and the hiring standards are a lot higher and the process an order of magnitude more stringent than the vast majority of jobs a person could apply for.

Is there anybody who can substantiate this statement? I have always had good vision, but I wouldn't stake my life on 20/20. The dmv said I was 20/20, like 7 years ago. I would hate to pass everything, as hard as I have worked so far for this, and then have that little surprise pop up and shoot me out of the water for this cycle. I never even thought to find out if my eyes would be a problem until yesterday. I have my test on saturday. I guess I just took it for granted.

If it is not 20/20, they will say "Hey, its not 20/20" and then you can go to your optometrist and have it checked with them and get glasses as needed before your medical exam. (Contacts won't work, as you have to had 12 months of use before the medical.) They do this so you DON"T shoot yourself out of the water with a surprise.

Thank you mom, that is very relieving to know. I have always had good vision and never started to worry about till two days ago. Then it was just one more thing to worry about. That would be about the biggest bummer ever, to have to start all over cause I may be 20/25. Alright So nothing to worry about when I try to sleep tonight. Tomorrow's the test.

Nor-Cal hopeful,

You must have at least 20/40 vision to go on in the process. If you don`t have 20/40 vision, you will fail the pat. You said you have never worried about your vision until yesterday. So why worry about it now? When I tested, my vision was not 20/20 at the pat. I had 20/40 vision and I passed the pat. However, my vision was corrected to 20/20 before my medical exam was cleared. That was my experience. Good luck on saturday and don`t worry about your vision.

Thank you elprotector. I don't know why I was worried. I guess it was just one more thing I could add to the pile for tomorrow. I know that I have at least 20/40. I just got to thinking about it and wanted to know I wouldn't have to start all over if I was 20/25 or something. My biggest worry now is that I will be so pumped for the test tomorrow, that I won't sleep tonight. there is always something to worry about.:lol:

You will be fine. The PAT is a piece of cake. Good luck.
