IN BRIEF LOS ANGELES COUNTY / SUN VALLEY
CHP Officer Kills Man on Freeway Offramp
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
October 8, 2006

A California Highway Patrol officer fatally shot a man Saturday who was wielding a metal object on a freeway offramp, a CHP spokesman said.

The officer shot the man about 3:30 p.m. at the Sunland Boulevard offramp on the Golden State Freeway, said CHP Officer Patrick Kimball.

The officer was exiting the freeway when a woman flagged him down. She said a man hiding in the bushes assaulted her, Kimball said.

As the officer approached, the man charged him and the officer fired, Kimball said. The man died on his way to the hospital.

The news this morning reported that the "metal object" he attacked the officer with was a tire iron, FWIW.

I once has someone throw a tire iron at my car, and he put a hole in my trunk. It looks like someone shot at me...the officer that responded (city police) didn't do anything though.
