Were any of you active Forum contributors at the PAT/Psych test last weekend in Fresno?
The physical part was a lot easier than I expected it to be. I was actually more tired after the psych test than I was after the physical test. I heard that about 20 people did not pass the PAT, and before that, 2 people changed their minds about CHP as a career when they got a glimpse of what they were getting themselves into.
Just curious to know how many of my Central Division competitors are out there.

One here. I've been browsing this forum for a long time! Just completed my QAP at 9:30 this morning. Feeling pretty confident about it too. Can't wait for the results!

Thank you. I am anxiously awaiting the results. The highway patrol is something I have had my mind set on for a long time. I am about a month shy of 21 and I realize that my age may pose a problem, but I am sure my level of maturity shows through. Thank you again and I will definitely let everyone know my results as soon as I receive them.

You're very welcome. Age isn't the end all and be all of determining ones maturity level. Often times it can be an accurate gauge, but then again, often times it can be quite inaccurate. I know that when I was 18 for example, I was MUCH more mature and focused than most of my friends. Even in my younger years while they were taking Mom or Dads car, puffing on joints, stealing things from K-Mart, or who knows what else that kids do, I was using common sense to stay out of trouble. It was ironic that my best friend in life for many years was almost completely opposite of me. I've never been arrested, never been fired, never been even written up during my last 11+ years of working full time. Then I look at what happened to some of my friends and I'm like, WHOA! Those are the guys that when I talk to them today and tell them "Hey I got my 10 year pin at work" they are like "Man, I never should have screwed up that job you got me". I'm a farily smart guy and I've ran into the "age" thing during my earlier working years. It was always something like "the kid can't know something we all don't" or "the kid won't be able to get that done". I surprised many people when the kid was the one working late and creating new ways of doing things faster and/or easier. So I'm 100% on board when someone is younger, but matured and focused. If you have your head on straight, you are focused and use common sense you may be surprised just how well you'll do. Just remember, be HONEST! The best thing you can do is try when you know you want something. Even if you do not get in, you will learn from the experience. If you come back a second time, you will have even more life experience, your former experience in the CHP process, and you will demonstrate that you are not easily discouraged. Being an older applicant, I wish I would have tried when I was your age. I don't regret working another career, but I do regret not attempting the hiring process in the mid-late 90's when I wanted to work for the CHP back in the day. Whether I got in at the time or not, the experience would have been worth while. Who knows, maybe it would have worked out for me when I was 21. It may never work out for me when I'm 29. But 21 or 29, you still have to try just as hard. I've never quit in my life and I've never not been able to do something I've put my mind to. I know in my heart that if I don't make it, I have still given it my 100% best. I can live with the results either way, knowing I put my best towards the effort. Be determined, focused and honest. I wish you the best in achieving your goal.
