Watched this on the news this morning....pretty wild ending.

Big Rigs Trap Pursuit VehicleCASTAIC - A motorist who led CHP officers on a chase north of Castaic was arrested today after he tried to drive between two big rigs, one of which suddenly veered left and trapped the small car between the trucks.

The chase, which lasted more than an hour, ended shortly before 6:30 a.m. on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway north of Quail Lake, said California Highway Patrol Officer John Seumanutafa.
No injuries were reported. The man's name was not immediately released.

CHP officers had tried to stop the vehicle about 5:20 a.m. for an unsafe lane change on a surface street near the freeway, Seumanutafa said. The motorist kept going, however, entering the northbound freeway.

The chase, broadcast live on various television stations, appeared similar to numerous other Southland pursuits until the end, when the motorist tried to snake his way around and between slow-moving tractor-trailers.

As the small sedan went slowly past a truck that had stopped on the left shoulder, another big rig in an adjacent lane suddenly turned left, and the car stopped, wedged between the trucks. CHP officers then arrested the motorist. It was not immediately reported if the trucker's action was deliberate.

When CHPs are at home and turn on the tv and see a chase do you watch the whole thing or turn it off? And can you tell if a CHP you know is involved by reading the numbers on the cars?

It depends....if I'm incredibly bored and have nothing better to do, I might watch it. If there's anything better on TV ("better" being a relative term), I'll change the channel.

And can you tell if a CHP you know is involved by reading the numbers on the cars?
Some areas have assigned cars, in which case you could tell if you happened to know who drove what car, and what roof number was on it. In other areas that just have the fleet as "pool cars" (you take out whatever car you can grab), there's really no way to tell who's driving it. I once saw my assigned car in a pursuit on tv, but had no idea who was behind the wheel that shift.

Watching these truck drivers help end this was interesting to watch but man it sure seems so many things could have gone wrong that could have sent this whole incident side ways in the blink of an eye.
