I'm sort of interested in hooking my wife up and making her fill out an application for Dispatcher... I think it would be fun...what's the CHP's rules on married peoples, one's an officer and ones a dispatch.

No problem...

The only rule is: one of you cannot directly supervise the other. Which if you're a TO and she's an officer.......won't pose a problem.

Talk her into doing it now so that by the time you know where you are going after graduation (think positive) she will have seniority and can put in for a transfer if needed. She will also have to attend a dispatchers Academy.

Is there like a clause or something, if her and I do this at the same time, is it possible they would put us in different areas?

Dispatchers apply for a job at a certain center. Officers out of the academy can be sent anywhere that is available on that current list of open spots. Don't have her apply at San luis Obispo or Bakersfield and expect for you to get those areas. Golden gate or LA com center should be alright depending on where you may be able to get depending on your SSN. Much easier for dispatchers to transfer as pretty much if there is an open spot at a center they will be allowed to transfer. Officially they have only 2 transfers a year but moving around hasn't been much of a problem I hear.

I'd second this, if she's considering it, simply because she won't be able to transfer until she's been on a year and off probation. With current openings, and newly added positions, she'd be able to go to almost any center, with probably only a few exceptions.

As a new officer you can only be assured there will be openings in Golden Gate and Sothern Div, so decide which one you like the best and have her apply there. You wont be far behind....

i think i read that the CHP policy is that if your married, and you apply for any position, your required to get a divorce. they don't like the idea of marraige. if they find out an officer is married, they immediately fire the officer, and make sure he/she never gets into law enforcement again.

got it from this one book.

The officer who administered my CVSA was married to a dispatcher. Keep in mind if you two are working on the same shift and you have something along the lines of an 11-99 for yourself, just pray that she can do the job that she needs to do to keep you safe. My CVSA officer told me that one time that something like that happened to him and she had to pass off dispatching to someone else because she nearly broke down. Other then that he said it's great because he can tell his wife all that went on in the day with minimal censorship.

Har har!

If you could see the first version of the briefing item I did today, concerning the dog that pee'd on our Comm center Xmas tree....you'd say it was back ;-)

unfortunately, discretion is the better part of valor........I had to clean it up a tad.

The briefing item, not the tree.

It went in the dumpster!

Don't feel bad - a lot of potentially great briefing items have ended up there! ;)
